C5 Auto Headlamps

i have a 2002 c5 and the auto headlamps just come on at random even in braod daylight, the button on the end of the stalk no longer works so im not able to switch them to manual. Does anyone know of a way to disconect them or a cheap fix?

a cheap fix? only thing I can think of is to disconnect the switch on the stalk so no power goes to the head lights

A work around is to set the lights manually to side lights only. It's a PITA but it does stop the main lights going off and on unexpectedly.
