skaramanga Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 Hi, when I started up my C5 yesterday it was still kind of dark and my windscreen was a bit dirty, so I activated the windscreen washers, on my car this also activates the headlight washers (if your headlights are on). The washers wouldn't come out properly and then got stuck mid way, I think they might have been frozen. Today they are working better but they still won't retract fully. When I use them they come out and wash the lights, but when they go in they stop about an inch from the bumper. I was able to "assist" them on the way in by gently pushing them back in to the body when they finished.Has anyone else come across this problem? I'm just wondering how they could be freed up a bit, WD40? Thanks Quote
techbod Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 this is a simple one, remove the wipers and allow the spindle to reset then put the wipers back on this rests the blade positions very common when they get frozen the spindle turns and the wiper is stuck Quote
skaramanga Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Thanks for reply. Its actually the washers for the lights (the ones that extend out and then retract) that are stuck, not the wiper blades on the windscreen. Thanks Quote
techbod Posted January 8, 2009 Posted January 8, 2009 wasn't thinking of those  but they are motorised same as wiper blades so they have a setting and they could have froze up but probably the wd40 might be the solution ;)I had an omega that did that but they fixed them selves so probably some grit got stuck in there Quote
skaramanga Posted January 8, 2009 Author Posted January 8, 2009 Thanks Techbod! I'll try the WD40 tomorrow I think, if they don't sort themselves out by then Quote
skaramanga Posted January 9, 2009 Author Posted January 9, 2009 They're still the same, i'm taking it to my dealer next week, i'm afraid of damaging them. Thanks. Quote
Guest Matt_C5 Posted October 16, 2010 Posted October 16, 2010 I also have a problem with the headlight washers in that they don't seem to come out at all. Should they wash the lights everytime the washers are used when the headlights are on? Do you have to take the bumper off to get to the mechanism that pushes them out? I am also missing the covers on the bumpers, anyone know where you can get these from? Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 18, 2010 Posted October 18, 2010 Yes - the washers should work when the headlights are on.Yes - you'll need to take the bumper off to get to them. The spray covers come in pairs - unpainted and the part number is 7414JC from Cit dealers. Quote

Thanks for the info, will investigate a bit more now. My haynes manual still hasn't turned up, is there much work in taking the bumper off? Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 is there much work in taking the bumper off? Before starting take off the spray covers otherwise they'll break. Undo:Three torx bolts underneath. Two screws each side in the wheel arch.Three torx bolts under the bonnet.Pull the bumper slightly forward then pull outwards each side near to the headlamps.Helps if you have some help because there are connectors to undo before removing.
