seefive Posted January 10, 2009 Posted January 10, 2009 Hi This is a long shot, but is there any way of disabling the engine light/limp home routine? My car is now running fine, ( but for a barely perceptible misfire on cold) but I'm still getting the dreaded flashing light and engine going into safe mode. A restart instantly clears the limp home, but the engine light hangs around for a day or so. C5's are notorious hypochondriacs, demanding to be taken to the garage when there's nothing really wrong. It would be great to get rid of this "feature" Thanks for any suggestions Quote
techbod Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 disabling it isn't going to solve anything because there is obviously a cold start issue which is setting the ECU into limp mode but since its not effecting the performance when its warmed up you need to look at the bigger issue so whats the fault code? if there is none then its a mechanical issue like the EGR valve / spark plug leads / spark plug / coil pack / coolant-fuel temp sensor, im thinking EGR valve needing cleaning out or fuel injector sticking and some fuel injector cleaner would help there because the car runs ok when warm I would say its a minor/intermittent problem ( try starting the car then switch it of and start it again ) if the problem isnt there then we can narrow the problem to cold start Quote

Injector cleaner has no positive affect. Yesterday I started the car and let it idle, watching the engine. It's just been serviced, so the plugs are new and the oil clean and topped up. It started and idled fine, with virtually no vibration of the engine. Yet still the light came on! I'm thinking - if it wasn't for the light, I wouldn't notice anyhing!I know some mobile car electrics people will reset the engine light, but can they disable the function? This would save what's left of my sanity... Quote
techbod Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 unfortunately there is no way to eliminate it without removing the bulb or to buy a cheap reset tool of ebay  Quote
coastline taxis Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 unfortunately there is no way to eliminate it without removing the bulb or to buy a cheap reset tool of ebay :rolleyes:bottom of the fuse box is a yellow wire snip it and it will stop it. wouldnt advise it though as if a serous fault occours you wont know about it and you could end up wanting a new engine. Go to search engine on here the type in limp mode and read the topic by Human Tank Quote
techbod Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 that's why I didn't mention a way round it chances are it would backfire on you when something really goes wrong  Quote
