On the C5 estate the rear screen has a push button to open it. It works on a solenoid within the tailgate. My rear screen has started to spring open whenever the driver's door is opened or closed. At the moment I'm living in Spain and it's not easy to converse with Spanish Citroen. Does anyone know the part number of the solenoid?

I had exactly the same trouble with my rear screen when I bought it last year and as a temporary fix I have simply removed (pulled) the two wires from the solenoid. I also have another tailgate related fault in as much that the rear wash wipe does not work ... unless I also have the heated rear screen on. I suspect the fix for both problems will be a broken wire (possibly the earth) coming down to the tailgate glass in the hinged section, but will wait until the weather improves before investigating properly.

Thanks for that. After further investigation I've discovered the solenoid is working correctly, as is the switch behind the windscreen wiper because when pressing that, the solenoid jerks forward. The only way I can stop the screen opening as I close the driver's door is by disconnecting the solenoid. Also, if the cover at the bottom of the screen is not in place, the rear washer and wiper won't work - which may be your problem.

There's definately a pattern emerging here - see my last post earlier this month in Problems and Fixes in thread titled "Rear wiper works with no key in car". Almost sure to be another broken wire, if so was only a really quick job to fix. My nightmare would be looking inside that rubber boot and finding 2 broken wires - they are all white coloured with the world's tiniest writing on which I couldn't read!

I've had exactly the same problem. Remove the plastic cap that covers the rear wiper nut and also the button for the opening the rear screen and check that the tiny white plunger that gets pushed in when you operate the button has not become slightly sticky.

Your fault will be the same as mine if shutting the drivers door or banging the rear tailgate causes the glass to open.

If that doesn't explain it I can do you a picture.

I had to buy a new button, but I'm sure I could have sorted it with WD40.

If you look in this post, you can see the small white plunger in the top photo:

Estate - Glass Part Of Tailgate Opens At Random, Intermittent fault - always a pain
