bobbyb52 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Have had the usual probs with rear doors not working, have got the offside working fine, had to get complete new lock £98 !( got a second hand one was c..p) The near side can be opened from inside, but tp open from out side have to bang the door then it works, but once central locked stops again. To save me another £98 would it fail MOT? Haynes only mentions front doors or has anyone got any suggestions to get it working. CheersBob Quote

CheersBobNo its not a mot failure although i would tell the tester how to open the door as hell need to be in to check the seat belts. If it opens when you bang it then think about removing the panel and spraying the look with grease or wd40 before it goes altogether Quote
techbod Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 its up to the mot tester and should fail if you cant open it when children are in the back but the examiner tends to look at the front doors mainly because of 3 door cars where there is no entry to the rear seats apart from front and rear hatch so in a nut shell it shouldn't fail Quote
iannez Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 it will fail. rear doors have to open from outside only. front doors have to open from both inside and outside. the front seats dont fold forward in a 4 door car so there is no access to the raer seats from the front door. Quote

Cheers As a short term fix i have temporariley pulled off the central locking feed to the rear door, the car locks and arms but the rear is always open .It will do until i get paid next ! Quote
Codehead Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Just joined but wanted to reply to this. My offside rear door has been stuck shut for some time (The child locks are on so the outer handle is the only way to open and it ain't working. ) The nearside one is sticky and generally needs a couple of pops on the remote to get it unlocked. Anyway, long story short, it passed an MOT like that, no problems. The garage said that the door had to be secure, but there was no requirement for it to work. HTH Quote
iannez Posted March 3, 2009 Posted March 3, 2009 your right mate. i checked on the testers guide and it said exactly that. as long as the rear doors are secure there is no other reason for rejection. when i was training to be a tester we coverd this and the rear doors had to open from the outside. vosa must have changed this since then. anyway, take no notice of my last post as its wrong. sorry all. Mosser Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 My rear nearside door is locked permanently too, the child locks are on, and the door lock has failed locked so i cant open it from the inside or outside, i managed to get the interior panel off, and moving the rods about doesnt unlock it either, and no amount of leaning or banging on the door releases it either. If anyone comes across a fix for this problem, can they please please post the solution !, my door has been stuck for nearly 9 months now and its a real pain when i could do with getting in from that side Thanks Quote
coastline taxis Posted March 24, 2009 Posted March 24, 2009 when youve got the interior panel and central locking unit off if you look at the lock. Youl see a white plastic cover on the lock remove this mind its a proper pain to get off the last one took nearly a hour. once off youl see the lock mechanism and the door stay, Now pull on the interior handle andyoul see what moves in the lock. you will then see that it looks like theres a piece missing (thats the bit that the kiddy lock retracts or falls off) put a large screwdriver in where the peice should be and push up the door should then open now put a new lock on Quote

Mosser Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 You dont actually have to remove the white cover at all, there is a black sort of dust cover clipped over the top of the white cover, and in the top left hand corner (looking at the back of the lock from inside the door), you should see a rectangular slot, if you shine a torch in there, you should see a brown/grey 4mm circular piece of plastic in a white plastic slide mechanism, If you push down hard on this circular bit, the door will open whether it is locked, jammed, siezed or childlocked as this operates directly on the cam that holds the door shut, get someone to lean on the door from the outside when you do push down on it, as this will ease the pressure off the cam and make it easier to push down on the plastic bit. Once the door is open, you can take the lock out (you need to remove the screw about 6 inches below the 3 that hold the door lock on), and then either fix your lock, or fit a new one and you are sorted ! Hope this helps anyone else having similar problems, but you dont need to destroy your lock mechanism or cut the door to get access to it if you simply push down on the bit i described above Quote
