gosso Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 I bought a new C4 VTR+ 1.6 petrol last June (2008). It has developed a whine which is apparent between 36mph and 45 mph. It occurs in third, fourth, and fifth gears, always at the same speed, and can be when the vehicle is accelerating or decelerating. I reported the problem to my dealer (Howard Citroen - Weston super Mare) and the technician agreed that there is a noise. He has had a conversation with a Citroen contact who says that this is normal and should'nt be a problem. I have owned about a dozen Citroens, and have never come across this before. To try to clarify the noise a little better, it sounds somewhat like an older rear wheel drive car makes when the crownwheel and pinion have covered a high mileage. (My car has only 9K on the clock). Has anyone come across this problem? Perhaps KFK (?) might like to comment. Sorry, I'm not sure if I have got the initials right. Tony Carter. Quote
paul.h Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 We have a 1.6 hdi VTR+ 2008 on 18k miles and the gearbox does not whine. On other cars when on a high mileage (100K +) I have replaced bearings that have been badly worn and they have whined but not in a narrow speed range and the noise has been greater under acceleration. gosso Posted April 19, 2009 Author Posted April 19, 2009 Thanks Paul, my dealer is arranging for me to meet a Citroen rep. to demonstrate the problem, and hopefully get it sorted. Tony Carter. Quote
gosso Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 Just to close this thread, Citroen fitted a new gearbox, and the problem is solved. :) Quote
