Here we go again!!

MOT time again and car(2004 2.0 Hdi 110) booked in to supplying dealer.Got call to say that car had failed on emissions.Having had dealings with this shady bunch before,I took it my local garage for a 2nd opinion.Failed again on emissions(mechanic told me car was belching so much blue smoke he thought engine was on it,s last legs)

Having had issues with this problem before(see previous posts)I took car back(after giving it a good blast) the following morning for retest at which point it passed with a fast pass.

The tester couldn,t believe it was the same car!!He had a look at the engine giving it a few revs and said that it seemed to be making a "whooshing" sound while being revved.

I seem to recall reading a post on here about these types of symptoms having something to do with a split pipe at the turbo but Sods Law being the order of the day I cant find it!!

Having a limited mechanical knowledge,I,m at a total loss so if any of the good souls who frequent the site can help me out I would be eternally grateful.

PS Have just noticed that this post is duplicated so I apologise for rattling on!!!!

A bit of a WAG without further information but oil in the intercooler from the turbo bearings. The run will have cleared most of it out. Nothing quite like an Italian Tune-up.

Take the intercooler out and check for oil (there will be a small amount, which is normal) and check the hoses for damage.

is there any loss of power when its given smoke out. also have you got the print out for the emissions

No there doesn,t seem to be any loss of power when it,s giving smoke out,the print out for emmissions was - 5.1-4.78-4.23-5.04-4.89.

When I took it back for retest the emissions reading was 0.89

had you put anything in the tank prior to the mot to help the emmissions ?.

No nothing at all and it was running on Shell diesel.

service required oil/oil filter/air filter/some stuff in the tank to clean the fuel system that should do it.

Carhad a full service 2000 miles ago, this has been rumbling on now since last easter but stiill none the wiser as to cause!!If I didn,t like the car so much it would have been traded in a long time ago!!!
