Hi can anyone tell me which wire is the live feed to the car communication unit that is under the dash right of the steering column, does it feed direct from the fuse box or is it feed from something else?

My car is an c5 hpi exclusive se 2002

Dont understand what bit you are on about. Do you mean the traffic master or to do with sat nav

Hi it is the sat nav unit wires go to the DVD/Colour display and I believe some may go to the radio and may go to the traffic master unit which is above the fuse box on the left.

I have been having problems with the display not getting power and radio not working properly.

I am trying to find out what wire is what. I have read all the post about this and have had the same problems as others, there is no power going into the unit sometimes. I know this because when it works I have to reset the date and time. I know the yellow plug has in it a grey multi lead that goes to the display, the others I don't no where they go. The brown plug has 3 white wires and I don't no where they go the other. 2 plugs go to the video socket.

I now believe white is live but should all the white cables (4) in the yellow socket become live when the ignition is on ? I have been checking it today and have found that 2 are live when the plug is out of the unit, do you know where this power comes from ? I am pretty sure I have a bad feed some where or earth problem

later on I went to go out but the car would not start believe or not I had blown F11 in the fuse box why would this stop you from starting the car ? the list of fuses in the book is not that helpful

Any help would be appreciated.

do a search on google for pin data for citroen that will show you what wire is what. The unit should have a permenant live in order to retain the date and time when the ignition is of. I would think that it would be on the same circit as the hazzards so could be worth checking that fuse for correct rating etc also has it had a hands free kit in the car that hasnt been taking out correctley. Is the traffic master working or has it been diconected under the dash. maybe a dealer diagnostic would prove usefull as youl get a print out of all systems.

Hi thanks I will have look on google and I think I try and find where the permenant live goes

I believe it did have a hands free kit but that had it own loom that connected to the radio sockets then into the radio I can not disconnect the traffic master as it connects to the radio wish I could fed up of it rabbiting on some times

NOW THE DEALER my car had to go in it would not start new fuel pump and valve that they said broke when the pump put to much pressure fuel through don't no why I should have had to pay for that £721 in all and they had no print out for me The sat nav was working when it went in but not when I pick it up the reply we did not do any thing to the sat nav not our fault good bye

I been led to believe that a diagnostic can not read the sat nav I no that they charge £75

thanks for your help I read other reports of yours and they are very good you have help a lot of people thank you

Trafficmaster has 3 modes. Manual, automatic, and motorway only. I always use automatic as there is no point paying for something then ignoring it.

Anyway, in manual mode the Trafficmaster will only talk if you press the button once. Otherwise it stays silent and the only indication is the red or green light on the dashboard. This seems to be what you want.

To change modes you need to press the button twice with no delay between presses.

Check the wiring that the supplied the prmenant live feed to the hands free kit as these need a permanent live aswell. If hands free kits arnt takin with the electricsg out properly they can cause all kinds of problems.

The reason for a diagnostic is that it will check all the systems, wires, and relays so you will be able to rule them out. As for the dealer you used dont judge them all by that experience as we have a good dealership up here (town center citroen). If the diagnostic comes back ok then id do one of two things either reload the software for the sat/nav and/or take the head unit out and get it checked as you say that it works sometimes but you didnt say weather it keeps blowing the radio fuse

Check the BSI units (fuse box and relay to you and me -currently I am having electrical problems and........... I traced my fault down to the relay box(fusebox) under the bonnet - left hand side - anyway speaking with the mechanic at a Citroen dealership about my problem a what would be a quick fix -well they would not carryout quick fixes but just replace the use box if a fault was found.

I asked how long it would take o get a replacement box and I was told they carry stock of both types for my year of car ('03) at £115 + vat, why would a dealer carry these in stock if it is not a common problem?

Also looking on the web -someone will actually test a repair the inner fuse box - I believe they have small circuit boards and miniature relays attached. I wil not know for sure until I take mine apart and investigate.

Please read below before replacing interior tray

Note from Citroen repair system Interior fuse tray[/i]

1. Built-in systems interface (BSI)

CAUTION : When replacing a built-in systems interface unit (BSI), the BSI must be initialised with a diagnostic tool (see the relevant operation) .

The HF remote controls must be re-synchronised if they do not operate after initialising the BSI (see the relevant operation) .

1.1. Removing

N.B. : The BSI is fitted on the left of the vehicle cabin (right hand drive and left hand drive) .

Exterior fuse tray no special equipment required.

CAUTION : Disconnect both battery terminals before removing the engine junction box so as to avoid any short circuit .

Also these two sites may give further information - I have not dealt with either of these people and do not know how good a service you will get but the information may be usefull.

Hi I have had a look at the fuse box it's not like the old ones that what makes it hard to find what wire goes to what I am going to try and follow the live ones back after reading that link is'ant it funny that some think easy to change you can't do because it has to be programmed

what I said about the traffic master happens at times when I turn the ignition on and it tells me it's out of date rabbit rabbit

I have removed the phone kit it was connected by the two main sockets that goes into the radio those two sockets connect to a loom then the loom connects to the radio it has a small pcb in the middle with other wires and fuse that would go to the hands free

The unit didn't blow the fuse it was me fiddling with the wires the car has never blown a fuse or blown a bulb in the six years that I have had the car I think that's good

I don't have the software for the satnav does any one know haw to get it with out paying an arm and a leg I get my maps free of the internet 09/10 out last month

As for the dealer I would not dream of judging all of them as the same but it's just typical of Northampton if you say a diagnostic can read the satnav I might have to get one I have had the unit out (bit of a bugger thou just for one screw) to get at the plugs better

Thank you all

I only ever get the Trafficmaster talk at start up when the car has been standing for a long time and the battery is low. Having a low battery on a top end C5 is a big problem in itself, as far as I can tell from my own experience. If the battery is poor I'm of the opinion that the spikes placed on the power rail by the suspension pump can corrupt sensor input to various ECUs. I would eliminate this as spurious faults have been traced to low batteries.

Don't want to sound unhelpful but do you know which version of Sat Nav it is? If it is the one with the separate CD drive in the little drawer above the accelerator pedal then I'm half sure it's an RT2, I bought an update CD for mine for €22-ish from Citroen Auch in the South of France, they posted it. If the Sat Nav uses the same CD drive as the single disc CD player then I am GUESSING that it's an RT3 unit. I know nothing about these.

The RT2 software is easy to upgrade, you simply place the CD in the drive and it will offer to upgrade it for you if the CD is newer than the stuff installed on the car. It must be done with the engine running as you cannot afford for the car to go into Eco mode when it's halfway through this. After 10 minutes of CD spinning noise, the centre console says it's done and invites you to eject the CD at which point the Sat Nav and trip computer reboots.
