the2ems Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 It has just cost me £17 to have a headlight bulb fitted on my 2005 C5. I fitted the LH without much trouble, except that I now need to find the radio code after removing the battery. But the RH is near impossible, especially in this cold weather when your fingers go numb. The dealer I took it to said they spent an hour, with 2 technicians, and had to move the hydraulic reservoir bottle. I had assumed that they would remove the headlamp unit. Does anyone know how to do this, for future reference? Cheers Quote
iannez Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 you need to remove the bumper but i have never had to to change a bulb on a c5 or the battery for that matter. just ignore the pain and wedge your hand in. Quote

I think 2005 must be different. I already found that link and tried to follow it, but couldn't find the 4 torx screws :o( The problem was, I got the connector off, but dislodged the bulb in the process when trying to pull. Then I could only just get the end of a finger onto the spring. I couldn't push it back and sideways at the same time. I just hope the new bulbs last a few years. The most annoying part is it was the passenger side bulb which had blown. I only replaced the driver side because it is recommended to change them in pairs :o( Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Mine is a 2005 model which needed new sidelamp bulbs. I spent hours trying to reach them but in the end I took the bumper off. Not for nothing is the Mk2 C5 on Halford's "won't do" list. Quote

DaveHerns Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Hiya. How did you take the bumper off? I can't figure it out. CheersJohn Douglas and I have disagreed on this before .I've fitted several sidelight bulbs - both sides - to my 2006 C5 with Xenon headlamps . You grope around for a while and just when you're about to give up ,it slips in .It helps if you use a mirror to see the holder so you can hold the bulb holder in the correct alignment Quote

It's the slipping out. I struggled to get the connector off, then couldn't get the spring off. Passenger side was ok, but drivers side was just beyond me.So I still need to know how to get the headlight units out/bumper off. Quote

DaveHerns Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 I supplied the bulb, and that was only for 1 side :(My offside sidelight blew again last week and rather than endless blind fumbling I thought I'd take the bumper off and headlight out with wisdom gained from my Haynes manual , to see how long it tookIt's easier to just undo one side of the bumper , pull it forward and use a long extension on the headlight boltsI was surprised how hard I had to pull the bumper before it came unclipped I reckon it's under 30 mins when you've done it before Quote
