ronat Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 I have had two Xantias,a 93 sx petrol, and a 1999 Exclusive HDI,and kept them both for a few years of fairly trouble-free motoring.I then got my present car,a Peugeot 607 2.2 HDI,which have had for five years, and it is still giving me no trouble.I am pretty sure that this good luck can't continue, and am considering changing it before anything expensive happens.I am seriously looking at a C5 Exclusive,08,and wonder if they are as good as they say.The main thing I am now looking for is comfort, and that was one thing that was really excellent in my Xantia.Any advice? Johndouglas Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Well if you're looking for comfort, the Exclusive C5 is hard to beat. I've regularly driven mine 1400 miles over a two day period without any feeling of weariness. Which is more than can be said for my previous SX Xantia. The Xantia's seating IMHO was one of its poorer features. I've had my C5 for five years now having covered 65000 miles and all its needed are the usual service items. MOTs are passed without trouble. ronat Posted July 18, 2010 Author Posted July 18, 2010 Many thanks for reply.I was very impressed with the car that I am considering, and it is useful to hear your comments. Quote
seefive Posted July 18, 2010 Posted July 18, 2010 Careful. 2008 was a "cross-over" year - 57 and early 08 reg cars were mk2 hatchback types, later registrations were the current model, Toyota-Audi mongrels. These newer cars do not all have the hydraulic supensions systems which have always made Citroens supremely comfortable, and they lack some of the kit taken for granted on the hatchbacks ( such as Xenon lights as standard) They are also less roomy, with significantly less head-room. You guessed it - I've got the older type (July 08 registered) and would not buy the newer model - I'll wait for the DS5(?) that will replace the C5 in a few years.. Quote

Citroen have made changes to the latest C5s - changes which in my opinion are not improvements. Not many of them now come with the unique Citroen suspension, but if you are going for an Exclusive, you will get it. Also they no longer fit xenon lights to any of the range unless it is added as a very expensive option. With my 2005 model I got them and they are superb. Quote
Randombloke Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Yes, the current C5 was either a 407 with a set of different clothes, or the beta version of the 508. Off topic - a 5 series Peugeot! Last seen in the 505 from the late 70s/early 80s. Quote
ronat Posted July 22, 2010 Author Posted July 22, 2010 I have done a deal on the car,and pick it up on the 1st of the month. It is the exclusive model, and has a host of extras, including the nav/media pack, and the leather massage seats.Had a quick tot-up of the new price, and if you were paying the full price,(does anybody?)then it would be around 28 grand.I have never bought a new car in my life, and this certainly shows why.(I am paying a good bit less than half of that.)
