seefive Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Hi c5 exclusive mk2 I am getting warnings on the screen quite frequently on loss of nsf tyre pressure - I pump it up and it lasts a few weeks before the beep happens again. If the problem turns out to be the valve does this mean an expensive trip to the main dealer? New valve complete with transmitter, and computer time? Alternatively is there a way to disable the monitor? I don't know what's causing it at the moment - more likely to be the tyre, but just wondered if the valves need replacing occasionally or not. Tyre retailers can't/won't touch them, understandably Thanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 Does it actually lose air? If so, it may be that you have a nail in the tread or maybe it's leaking through the valve, in which case a new Schrader valve insert will stop it. The system can be deactivated by using a Lexia. If the sensor fails, a new sensor can be bought online, but then after fitting, an exciter has to be used on it, and then the Lexia to programme it to the car. Quote
Turbofan Posted July 23, 2010 Posted July 23, 2010 I'm sorry I cant give an answer but I'm certainly interested in finding out what it is as I have a C5Mk3 Exclusive, which also has tyre sensors. I haven't got a problem at the moment but I'm not far away from having to get new front tyres and I'd like to know if there are any problems with that.)Hi c5 exclusive mk2 I am getting warnings on the screen quite frequently on loss of nsf tyre pressure - I pump it up and it lasts a few weeks before the beep happens again. There shouldn't be - if the fitter knows what he's doing. I've had three new sets of tyres on my C5 and there's never been a problem. Quote
seefive Posted July 25, 2010 Author Posted July 25, 2010 Thanks for the information. To recap - getting new tyres is not a problem, however the fitter won't put a new valve in, as they do on conventional wheels without sensors. My own tyre is probably losing air through a slow puncture rather than the valve, and my pump guage confirms it is losing pressue, the monitor is correct. John - can you expand on the new valve insert option? Sensor equipped valves are metal rather than plastic, and attached to radio transmitters that sit inside the rim, presumabley held in place by the metal vlave body. Is there something that can be fitted when you buy new tyres, without upsetting the transmitter? Cheers Quote
Johndouglas Posted July 25, 2010 Posted July 25, 2010 however the fitter won't put a new valve in, as they do on conventional wheels without sensors. With rubber valves the fitter cuts off the base, yanks it out and chucks it away, then fits a new rubber valve. On our cars with metal valves and sensors, the fitter screws out the innards from the valve and fits another insert into your existing valve body. Quote
