I have a 2007 1.4HDi Cool model which up until today the Air Conditioning worked fine. As the weather was hot today I selected the AC switch on my manual AC system, the AC green light illuminated but nothing happened to the temperature. I then pulled over and opened the bonnet. My friend selected AC with the engine running but I could not hear the condenser clutch engaging(Bottom of fan belt on Drivers side). The electrical cables to the condenser looked ok and I can't see any fractures to the coolant Air Con pipes. I also noticed the AC light comes on in the off position which it has never done before. All the switches alongside the AC switch work ok so I don't think it's a faulty switch.

It sounds like the Air Con fuse as blown as even with a broken condenser the internal relay would still click even if the clutch was broken. There is only one fuse in the car (thats ok when checked with a multimeter)and I can find the main fuse box by the Battery. I have no Haynes Manual only the owners manual.

Any idea which fuse would it be as there is nothing in the ownwers Manual and I'm reluctant to take it to a Garage if its a simple thing as a blown fuse?

Haynes shows the clutch on the compressor (not the condenser, this is like a radiator at the front of the car) has an earth and a feed from the BSI, built-in system interface, which gets its signal from the air con control panel. It also shows fuse 8, 20 amp in the engine fusebox has something to do with the air con system.

Could this problem be related to your other electrical problems ?

I hadn't thought about that but a large electrical surge from another system could rupture the fuses. Will take every fuse out and test with multimeter to see if I've got more than one fuse gone.

If the refridgerant pressure gets too low (usually because the refridgerant quantity is low) the compressor will go into safety mode and not allow the compressor clutch to engage.

If fuses are all OK this is often the most likely cause, anything else with automotive a/c will start getting expensive.

Fuses are all ok but don't know about relays. Car had multiple failures last night on a straight road at @40mph

1. Rear wash wipe activated

2. A/C light came on but fan switch was at '0'

3. Power steering packed up and went into really haeavy steering mode.

16 hours later power steering still hasn't reset as Garage quaoted to me on phone.

I like my car as its economical but it's getting too dangerous to drive!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do not know if this will help, but sometimes people disconnect the battery for a while to reset the car's management system when having electrical problems. The power steering not working until switching off/on for a few times has been noted before on the forum.

Was the garage who did your software update a Citroen one ?
