Guest c5_man Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Hi guys. Just joined this site, and i am intrested in buying a C5 hatchback that i have seen and test drove today. The car is a HDI 110 exclusive on an 02 plate with 150k on the clock, it has the service book stamped up to 56k.There is nothing in the book to say the cambelt has been changed. At what mileage do they get changed??? I am quite impressed with the car and the toys it comes with. Body work is pretty good, although the alloys are showing signs of corrosion. Basically i need to know what to look out for on these cars. I know these Hdi engines are dam good, as i have previously owned a 406 with the same engine. I did test drive the car today, and i thought it seemed very sluggish, i then got a little worried when it bleeped and the 'stop' sign lit up. After getting back home, i realised i was driving round with the handbreak on, doh! If anyone can help me out here with what to look for i would be very grateful. Cheers c5_man Quote
Guest kimosabe Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Anyone??? Just bought a 51 plate 2.2 C5 hdi sx myself with 107k miles on the clock with full service history but no mention of a timing belt having been done.Since found out that the first timing belt change on this car is 100k miles.(yours may be different)Do a search on the forum for it.Anyhow first thing I had done was the timing belt and the water pump and oil and filter change. (for piece of mind)The car I have runs very well except for a glich in the drivers window in that if you press the switch to close the window it goes all the way up then opens again to within 6 inches from the top, I think this is quite a common prob with this car.I tried to get away on holiday today but decided to renew both frontsuspension drop links (not bad at £8.40 each).Def going away on tuesday. All said for the money i paid £11 hundred pounds I think this is a very comfy car with loads of power when you need it.Have a good look round the forum and read all you can about the C5.Enjoy the C5, I know I willDave Quote
paul.h Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 The C5 is supposed to be one of the more reliable cars but I would have a look under each C5 subforum at the headings to get an idea of possible problems but these include rear brake squealing, pollution messages, rear subframe bearings on higher mileages, some have had front seat frames break, the climate control not giving the correct temperature at each side of the car (hot when should be cold), suspension not working properly - should always be level (parallel to the ground) and central switch should raise and lower the car (always put to the max height before jacking up - its in the handbook), suspension pump will run for a short time when the doors are closed after you get in but not continually, wet driver's footwell - check the carpet is dry after rain, tyres can be expensive.
