I am new to this site and would appreciate any advice!!!!! I have lost all suspension and steering on my C5 HDi 52 plate. I cannot drive it at all so i called a mobile mechanic to look at it on my drive. We put a litre of LDS fluid in it and after 5 mins it started leaking again from the rear driver's side, it seems to be coming from a pipe that runs across the fuel tank to the front of the car. The leak is at the rear on a joint bit where it has corroded. I let the car run a little but then the pump started to make some noises so i just switched it off. The mechanic said that it would need to be on a ramp and the fuel tank would need to come out in order to fit the pipe. Does anybody have an idea what this would cost? Can somebody tell me what the name of the pipe is.... feeder etc. Not sure whether i just need to sell the car as is and not get the work done on it and make it clear when i sell it. Any advice, appreciated.

I should try and find an independent Citroen garage who could replace the pipe for you. Here's a diagram of the pipework:-

From your description it looks as though the pipe is No 1 on the diagram. If so, it's Citroen part number is 5270QV. Pipe number 2 (which you may not have) is 5270QT.

Hi JohnDouglas,

Thank you for your response. It looks to me that it could be pipe 1. Not had much success at finding a local independent for us yet. I will try and make a few calls tomorrow, now i know what the problem is or likely to be. Would this be something that could be changed on a driveway or would it def have to be done a big ramp. Problem being it is marooned on the drive. Many thanks.

if Your getting the pipe from the dealers then its easier than changing a brake pipe as it comes pre shaped for the car. Although a ramp will make the job easier i supose it could be done on your drive provided the its a level driveway. if you put a block of wood on a jack to support the tank and lower it a couple of inches you can then get to it by putting your hand through the ispection hole under the rear seat. Youve done the hard bit by depressurising the system without a lexia ha ha. Anyway once youve replaced the pipe just fill up with lds and the car will do the rest no diagnostics needed

Hi Coastline Taxis thank you for your reply. It sounds pretty straight forward but think I will get the part assuming that is the one I need which I am sure it is. Then I just need to find an independent Citroen person or someone that is confident to change it. If there is anybody in the CAMBS area that could do it for me then please email. Many thanks.

Don't know how close you are to Sawtry but there's a guy called Martin who runs an engineering workshop called Pleiades. It's at Unit 12A, Brookside Industrial Estate, Sawtry, PE28 5SB The phone is 01487 831239. I'm told it's off the A1M between St. Neots and Peterborough.

Citroen hydraulics is Martin's speciality and he probably has the pipework you need in stock. I just don't know whether he does mobile work.

Hi JohnDouglas,

Pleased to say my Citroen C5 is now up and running again. I got it taken to Pleiades in Sawtry, Cambs. The service from Martin and his guys was outstanding, they understood the problem and fixed it. It was the pipe 1 which had cracked which we suspected. I was away driving my car away in less than 2 hours. What a relief to be driving my car rather than it being marooned on the drive. Many thanks for this site too!
