Guest Chris_R Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Hi everyone, my wife's 2002 C3 HDI decided to open it's driver side electric window all by itself today which is bad enough, but it's decided that it doesn't want to close!!! Anyone got any ideas on what could have caused this? I've checked fuses and the ones I can get at seem to be OK (I did find one blown one but replacing it has not affected the window). I've also pulled the SH fuse for half an hour hoping to reset the computer, but that hasn't changed anything either. Quote
paul.h Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 Just a guess, have you tried to open the window when it was frozen shut, then when the ice has melted the window has managed to open ? This would not explain why it will not close again though. When I have had a window not close (on a Saab) this was due to dirty contacts inside the switch and applying a 12 volt supply to the switch wiring connector was a temporary measure to close it. This also proved the problem was not at the window motor end or the wiring in the door hinge area without having to take anything apart. Quote
Guest womble Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 On my old 306 hatch, which we owned previously to buying the Berlingo, the wife had opened the passenger side window and it stayed half open (or optimistically half shut). Time was against me and I did not have chance for a proper troubleshoot but had read previously of faults with wiring looms going open circuit with broken conductors withing the loom. It was getting late and darkness threatened to take over plus the car was parked outside in the street and thus open to the elements and abuse. In a mad-dash fit of pique, I removed the door panel, removed the motor and gearbox from the door, pushed the glass hard shut in the tracks, unwound the control cables and tied off with knots and cable ties so the window remained in a permanently closed state. To mend it was one of those jobs I was always going to do at a later date but the new motor intervened so it never got done!!!! Quote
Guest Chris_R Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Thanks guys. I swapped over the passenger and driver window switches today and, lo and behold, was able to close the drivers window! I then stripped down the drivers switch which is easy to do - it just clips together - to find it all gunked up and messy inside. A few squirts of WD40 and a good rub with a soft paint brush got it all cleaned up and it works fine again now. Quote
