Guest scoobs Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 Picked up the C5 a couple of weeks ago, seem to be getting around 25 - 28 to the gallon when specs say around 37 MPG. Got better economy from the Espace I replaced! ANy ideas guys please. :) Quote
paul.h Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I have a brochure from 2003 which gives official figures as 26.2 / 45.6 / 35.8 mpg for urban / extra urban / combined cycles. So if you are just doing round town journies and especially short ones in this particularly cold weather then you are about right with your consumption. However, if not then things to consider will include a brake service in case they are binding, checking if the air filter is clean and other service items. Quote

Cheers Paul, since getting the car i've only done 15 - 20 mile journeys and most of that in the worst conditions. I'll keep an eye on things. Have checked air filter and that's like new. Not noticed any brake issues but will check when weather is a little more user friendly!! Quote
Guest picnmix Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Sounds just about right to me depends of course on your style of driving and type of journey. My 2005 C5 1.8i LX does around 31 mpg. Quote
seefive Posted December 15, 2010 Posted December 15, 2010 Sounds just about right to me depends of course on your style of driving and type of journey. My 2005 C5 1.8i LX does around 31 mpg. My 2008 2 litre exclusive petrol auto (Mk 2 hatchback) 31 on the screen, but 28 when measured brim to brim. Mixed town/country/M25 driving Quote
Oldmicrochip Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Can't help with the 1.8, assume thats a Petrol, guess if you want economy you should have not got a Petrol. I have had a 2001 Mk 1 2.2Diesel SX and I now have a 2005 Mk 2 2.0 Diesel VTR, and from both I got on a journey 50+mpg, 30+mpg towing 1200Kg Caravan. Naturaly less solo in town, and running around. I am not a boy racer, so not heavy footed. What does the local Citreon dealer say, or Refer back to the seller and ask. Quote
paul.h Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 In case this is not obvious - when you remove the cover from the air filter you see the clean side so this should always look like new. You have to lift out the filter to see the dirty side to check if it needs replacing. Quote
Guest scoobs Posted December 16, 2010 Posted December 16, 2010 Thanks for all the comments and advice guys, sounds like it's running OK and Citroen got a little excited on official fuel figures when they 'made up' their brochure!! lol Quote
