Guest martin24 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Hi, 1st post I have a C3 1.4HDI 2002. The car was serviced and MOT'd by Citroen on November 17th. After the service I have noticed that the car only did 123 miles before the 1st fuel light went off. This normally goes off at about 165 miles. I went on holiday for 3 weeks then came back and have tested it 3 times and everytime it is only getting 123ish. This equates to about 51mpg instead of 67ish. Does anybody know if this is normal at this time of year or has Citroen done something to the car? I have it booked in for 10th January but I would like to know what others are getting for consumption at the moment. Thanks Quote
paul.h Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 The usual services only change oil and filters so unlikely this would increase fuel consumption. With this cold weather the engine takes longer to warm up so needs more fuel and winter diesel has a different composition so it does not freeze and block the fuel system which also increases consumption. I have seen our petrol C3 and diesel C4 drop about 10 to 20% mpg depending on journey length. Quote
Guest martin24 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Thanks for the reply. Is it possibly the fuel filter leaking? It was not cold when the service was done and the 1st reading was made as the snow etc. had not started. Just got another reading on the way home. 128 miles. No lights or heaters for entire time. I don't remember a drop of this size last year. I use two tanks a month and always monitor when the 1st light goes but I've been refilling as soon as the light goes lately to test if its my driving, heaters etc. Quote
Guest wisey52 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Your figures seem to match mine (had the 16V HDI for 8 years, serviced and MOT'd this December); consumption is amazing through the warmer months but always dips to about 125m to the first light as soon as it gets properly cold. In my case it started before the service. I doubt the service had anything to do with it, not that I'm a car expert. Quote
Guest martin24 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Thanks wisey. Looks like its normal then. Hopefully it will warm up soon! Quote
Guest Bossphillip Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 You do not need to go the dealers.....the price of diesel has gone up or don't you watch the news...so that means less to the gallon... :o :) :) Quote

Guest womble Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 And exactly how does the price of diesel affect MPG? :rolleyes:It means that you only get 8 pints to the gallon or 1000cc's to the litre :)  :o Quote
