Guest lisalou Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Hello everyone, Could anybody advise me on how to fix my display unit. I've had this car 3 years and this is the 2nd or 3rd time this has happened. For some reason the display unit seems to get stuck showing the following: a little car symbol...6214I bought the car when it was 1 year old and this seems to be a recording from a trip or something the previous owner made. However I can't get it back to display the MPG or anything else. Obviously the current info it's showing is completely useless to me, but how do I change it? The manual is no use at all for this problem, and the only time it seems to change back to the desired MPG display is after a service. How is it done?Any help would be greatly appreciated Quote
paul.h Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 The usual way to reset the trip computer is to hold in the button on the end of the wiper stalk (as opposed to a quick push to change the page) then the values will go to zero. Do this for each of the 3 displays. You will get a more accurate current mpg and distance to empty fuel tank if you regularly do this reset. 6214 may be the max value it goes to. Quote
Guest lisalou Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Aw, thank you Paul, that worked a treat. I wish I'd asked this question 3 years ago!!To be honest I never even knew that the wiper stick controlled any of the display unit - it's not an obvious place to put it. What are all the other screens that show up? There are 2 different MPG displays, is one your average since last re-fuelling?Thanks for your help :) Quote
paul.h Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 The 2 different pages are identical but allow different uses. These give distance travelled since reset, average mpg since last reset, average speed since reset. The car handbook (page 57 in ours) gives as an example using 1 page for daily checks and the 2nd page for monthly checks. In our case I tend to just use one page as a single trip to give mpg and distance travelled on that trip - it is a pity you can not put in the distance to be travelled and let it count down to avoid the mental calcs on the way. The 2nd page tends not to be used and when I checked after seeing your post I saw that it was on 6214 miles which is almost 10000 km so guess the max is 9999 km which is about 6214 miles. If wanted, I could reset the 2nd page every time the fuel tank is filled to see actual mpg against amount of fuel put in. The 3rd page gives distance left in fuel tank (which will vary depending on instantaneous mpg), instantaneous mpg, distance remaining to be travelled if you have NaviDrive. Quote
