Cambelt change is that bad cost wise belt+pulleys+water pump just under a hundred plus labour if your not doing it yourself. If you havent got the pins for locking the enginr up buy a set for a ford focus 1.6 there the same pins but half the price £11

yes,all that included.just seems quiet alot really. This was at an Citroen specialist, not main dealer.Just would like to know exactly what is done to the car,a breakdown of parts, labour vat etc.

In November my daughter put her Xsara into an independent Cit dealer for new belt, new tensoners and change of water pump. Total cost was £450. I recently bought the same kit to do my C5 (when the weather warms up) and the belt kit and water pump plus VAT came to £120.

That's just it! reading various threads etc, you can see how much less it can cost you.Plus after working in the motor trade, you get used to paying cost price for parts and giving one of the mechanics some beer money and job done!! I appreciate that people have to run a business, costs overheads etc,but strewth, some places really push the limits.I will get the cam belt/filter done at my long used and TRUSTED friend/mechanic.He may not be a Citroen specialist, but if he says xyz needs doing,i trust him 100%,never let me down in 15 yrs.

A question tho, as im researching stuff i need for the car, there is on ebay, DPF filters going for £155,cheapest so far,but reading some threads, people have suggested jet washing out the filter(?) I've found a cam belt kit for about £65 delivered. It pays to shop around.

I fear that the car may turn into a money pit, but that aside, i will persevere as I love it,most I've paid for a car in my life. Still trying to sort a few little niggles, but getting there.I wish i could talk to someone face to face, and get straight answers, not hazy guess work,if buts and maybe's.I cant afford that. That's why i appreciate forums like this!

Yes! it works. In fact the exchange filters fitted by Citroen are probably cleaned ones. Of course, if you are an environmentalist you might worry about the 'dirty' water being washed into the drains.

cool! :D so in my very simple thinking, what i need to do is take apart the exhaust(which i understand that the filter is attached to?) jet wash the filter with just pain water,no detergents(?)and reassemble. But i guess i do need to address topping up the eolys fluid as well?

after talking to my step dad(incredibly smart person, top 1% at Harvard /MIT)about the environmentalists, they have done more damage than good. Thus ends the matter, cus he's really smart and always right

But not only that. You need to 'tell' the ecu that i's been done, otherwise it assumes the eolys tank is still empty. That means a visit to Citroen - or someone with a Lexia outfit.

Good stuff, time to call in a few favours with the boys. That has been a tremendous help, thankyou
