Guest kbrown Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Hi guyshoping you can offer a lady advice. I have a berlingo multispace 1.6hdi xtr 60 plate 1600 miles on clock. Problem is my mpg ranges from 34-41. I'm a community nurse so do drive short frequent journeys. I've been trying to keep my revs low and not put much pressure on accelerator unless i need to but it isn't improving. I've noticed that even with a little pressure on accelerator it has a very quick effect on the mpg lowering it like a lead balloon. Does this sound right? I'm finding i'm putting in the same cost of diesel per week as i was with my petrol 1.6 stilo, same miles/week, thought i'd put less as it's diesel. Would appreciate your advice Many thanks, Karen Quote

iannez Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 dont understand how it ranges from 34-41 mpg. there is a display that will tell you what your average mpg is (1 figure). sounds like your watching your instant mpg go up and down while you are driving and this will not give you a true reading. read the handbook and switch to average instead of instant and you will probably find your getting upwards of 45mpg. Guest kbrown Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Thanks for your replies, the average mpg reading does vary on a day to day basis, on this i get no better that 41mpg, usually more mid to high 30s, the instant one does shoot up and down as i accelerate as i would expect. I have started to watch this one as i drive so that i can try and drive more efficiently but find i am driving very slowly. Not that i drive fast! is mid- high 30s/ 41 max the norm for short frequent journeys? Many thanks, Karen Quote
iannez Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 how often are you re-setting your average econ. best off leaving it alone as you wont get a tru reading for at least a couple of weeks. Quote
paul.h Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 We have the 1.6hdi (110 hp) engine in our C4 (about 40k miles now) and have no bother getting 60 mpg on motorways but on the short trips round town it gives about 40 mpg. Diesel is about 4p/litre dearer than petrol so if making only a cost comparison this is worth about 1 mpg extra with the diesel than the petrol for the same cost over the same number of miles. Quote
Guest kbrown Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I reset the average mpg and am now getting low 40s which i would expect. Am much happier! Quote
