Switched Power Source For New Radio

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I am trying to fit a new stereo into my C3 (2003) diesel, I have worked out that part of the normal wiring there is no switched (on and off with ignition) power source, as its all controlled with the blessed BSI network thingy. SO I am trying to get a switched power supply from the cigarette lighter, does anyone know how I can get the center console off enough to access the cabling to the cigarette lighter at all please??? Or it there is an easier way to get a switched power source?

Thanks

Have a look on the I.C.E subforum, if not already seen, there is a post on fitting aftermarket radios to the C3.

Haynes wiring diagrams show the cig lighter and accessory sockets still take their supply through the BSI so you may not gain anything here.

Surely if you use the correct adapter cables, it isn't a problem? I used the Connects2 cables, and mine goes on and off with the ignition.

As I understand it the connects2 only work with a handful of stereos..Is that correct?

I have looked and seen the CTSCT002 but it mentions Clarion, does that mean it only works with those stereo's

I've fitted a Sony unit to mine as the original CD player was kaput when I bought the car. I bought the cable conversion kit and the box for using the stalks. No problems at all, but what I like is that my radio works all the time so the 'eco-mode' doesn't switch it off when I'm sitting in the car for a length of time!

I only have to remember to switch the unit off when parking and not removing the facia, or take the facia out.
