Guest tarzan1 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Hi all, i have a c5 vtr 2.0 hdi 03 plate that iam having trouble with, any help would be great! When i change gear its clonking. going aross the gate is fine, the peddle dosent seem spongy, also when traveling in 4th or 5th iam getting a sort of light humming noise, when i push the cluch down at speed it seems to get better. Would this be the gearbox or clutch, or both! Regards T. Quote
paul.h Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 Easiest way I have found to bleed a clutch is sucking the fluid through using a hand vacuum pump, Mityvac, since pushing the pedal down/up is not as easy as brakes since the clutch diaphragm springs back. Used to have a lot of problems doing Saab clutches without this but maybe the Citroens are different. The fluid should be changed anyway when the brakes are bled every 2 years and if not done it is likely to be black with seal bits in it. A large syringe would also work to suck the fluid through. Guest tarzan1 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Hi Paul, Thanks for the advice, I bled the clutch on sunday using an easybleed kit and pushed 1 litre of new fluid through, (dot 4) But the problem is still there, Ive since noticed that if i double cluch it then it seems a lot better, do you think i should buy a Mityvac and try again! or do you think the clutch needs changing, 93000 on the clock. thanks again. paul.h Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 A clutch when needing replacing is normally due to slipping or juddering and not if not fully disengaging. Maybe there is some air in the clutch master or slave cylinders or one of these may need replacing (worn seal). How far down is the pedal pushed before the clutch starts to disengage, should be near the top. Does this point change if the clutch is held down indicating the cylinder seals may be passing ? Is there a sign of fluid leakage from the cylinders where the push rods go in ? If using the Easi bleed, it may help to use a low pressure and also push the pedal down/up a few times to help move any air. Quote
Guest qman3428 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 The humming noise sounds like the clutch release bearing, adding pressure by putting your foot on the pedal would cause it to quieten but it is bad practice as you are inducing clutch wear. I would suspect the slave cylinder as it sounds like it is not disengaging properly and think about a new bearing if you have to change the clutch. What mileage have you done? Quote
Guest tarzan1 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 thanks paul, qman, thanks for your input, yes paul when i press the pedal down then select the gear then release the pedal the bite is very high, But some times it feels like its biting low! (sounds strange i no)as for the humming sound,at speed (around 50mph) if i take the car out of gear and foot off the clucth (coast) then the noise seems to stay now, Mabe a wheel bearing, ive shook the wheels from side to side while on the ground and all seems ok, mabe i need to jack the car off the ground and check them again.93000 miles on the clock. Does anyone know of someone in the northants area that are good with C5s? as this mabe the way forward. i live 10 miles north of northampton. Once again Thanks for all your input. Quote
