Okay it says 3000 in the book. Its regarding economy. I am averaging around 62 mpg after 8000 miles. Not bad seeing as the average is 66. Will this improve? (YES YES ITS MUCH BETTER THAN A PETROL ENGINE) Even on the motorway I don't get anywhere near the quoted 76 mpg. Pardon the pun but is the engine still (clears throat) tight? Had a saxo and after its first service its mpg went from 26 t0 41 mpg. Kewl.

Diesel is optimax too. Gonna stay from ULSD until the quality improves. Why should Fuel quality differ so diversely? "And did you know that garages are often supplied with fuel from rival companies if their depot is closer? So depending where you live, your Shell fuel might not be shell. " Oh really? Cheeky sods.

They did not say much. They said "Citroen UK says its better if you personally check the oil using the dipstick" WHY THE HELL INCLUDE THIS IN THE FIRST PLACE? Another bell and whistle............... like a computer I guess. Back to the oil gauge, they said they will check it when I told then the gauge flashed last Saturday. Gonna be an overnight job with the list of problems I specified in the "colonic irrigation" posting.
-
Yes I have suspected this forra long time. 79,9p a litre is still cheap compared to Evian and Volvic.
-
Since the camshaft repair recall job thingy, I noticed the oil gauge always read MAX. I have booked it in tomorrow to have it checked. Last saturday the gauge flashed which suggested a malfunction. 10 minutes later it was fine.
-
You may well have a point there. Filled up with Optimax a few weeks ago and the car was quite powerful. I have heard about supermarket diesel and how they are produced to less strict tolerances. I am quite prepared to pay a few pence more for better fuel btu I am stil getting dodgy power delivery.

A diesel engined road vehicle DERV, has 2 way cat is between the engine manifold and the middle section of the exhaust. In fact it sits right under the heater which I am sure pleases you (2 way since it diminishes 2 of the three harmful emissions from burning fuel (hydrocarbons, Nox and CO). Sometimes the diesel fitments are called oxidising catalysts. Petrol cars have 3 way devices.) Oxidising (Diesel and Petrol) 1. Hydrocarbons -> Carbon Dioxide +Water 2. Carbon Monoxide (CO) -> Carbon Dioxide + Hydrogen Reducing (Petrol only. A diesel engine operates too lean (higher air to fuel ratio) to produce enough Nox but whatever Nox is produced is taken care of by the Gas recirc ) 3. Nitrogen Oxides (Nox) -> Nitrogen and Carbon Dioxide and/or Water. Notice how one of the clean by products happen to be carbon dioxide? *Finds tree and hugs it* I am not an environmentalist. I know what a bar of soap is. Far from it. I love my car. The motorist is being fleeced. Electric cars? Slow unreliable. What provides the oportunity to recharge them cars? Yes the mains. WHere do the mains come from? Power stations. What do they belch out? Yes Carbon dioxide. Do catalytic converters get installed in the cooling towers? No. Cars are safer cleaner more economical than they were 30 years ago and every motorist is being taken for a ride. Still. LPG? Very nice (much cleaner and the engine will last longer) but wil the gov still freeze its duty on it after 2004? They promised to with diesel many years ago and look? Its expensive. LPG...cheap but miles worse fuel economy (16 mpg in a volvo S40? )and retro fitments arent exactly safe and manufacturers who do their own endorsed fitment charge £2000 even though u get 60% back through the Govs powershift scheme. The lobby that states diesels are carcinogenic are talking bollo cks.

Moose forgive me but you did ask. I did not do a 4 year pHD on vehicle emissions for nowt. *Stands on soap box* Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) systems were introduced in the early '70s to reduce an exhaust emission that was not being cleaned by the other smog controls. Oxides of nitrogen (NOx) are formed when temperatures in the combustion chamber get too hot. At 2500 degrees Fahrenheit or hotter, the nitrogen and oxygen in the combustion chamber can chemically combine to form nitrous oxides, which, when combined with hydrocarbons (HCs) and the presence of sunlight, produces an ugly haze in our skies known commonly as smog. How to reduce NOx formation can be reduced by, amongst other things, recirculating some of the exhaust gases. The EGR valve recirculates exhaust gases into the intake stream. Exhaust gases have already combusted, so they do not burn again when they are recirculated. These gases displace some of the normal intake charge. This chemically slows and cools the combustion process by several hundred degrees, thus reducing NOx formation. There you go!!!!

Mr B Clitoren (no spelling error) have ordered a clutch switch to remedy a problem of irregular idling speed and the cruise malfunctioning (both of which disapear when I restart the car). I called then and the part wil get fixed this week. I told them of last wekends problems and they say they wil fix it. Fix it? And now for my next joke. All the problems happen in warm weather. God help me If I take this car to France. Warm wather? 16 degrees? Warm Weather? My a**. Parts replaced? So far I have had a new water in diesel warning light sensor. Oh yes that new camshaft recall thingy. I still love my car. Nothing beats it for character, spec and performance. Its just the niggles that are becoming as inviting as shingles. Your part that was replaced that "recycles"? Gas recirculation valve ring any bells? Sorry for being a nerd. I just did a doctorate on vehicle emission devices. *Hugs a tree*

Was driving to York on Saturday via the M62. The Pennines aproaches and attempted to overtake a truck. The car started to shake and the engine management light briefly lit. Then suddenly the car lost power whenever it hit an incline. Floored the pedal. The car could not pull the skin off a rice pudding. Set the cruise on. It worked until a hill was in view. Stopped at the hard shoulder. Restarted the car and the problem disapeared. Was your problem fixed? If so what did they do? I wil mention this to the dealer when the part ordered from last week finally arrives and I take it in for repairs. (6th time in as many months) Return trip, I let the lady drive. She kept on fidgeting withthe cruise control as if it was the handset of a PS2. The cruise then malfunctioned. Stopped the car and turned the engine off. Restarted the car and the problem went. What the frigg is going on?
-
Moose and co. They found the problem. A faulty clutch sensor. Whats one of them? Parts been ordered but theres another problem. The service has been great from Citroen Manchester. They always valet my car after its been seen. Thanks to the fact I have been to the garage 6 times, its such a clean car!!! They washed it yesterday and the auto car wash left a massive scrach in the rear bumper. I went livid tellign them you don't take a black car in one of them. They said theyll fix it when the clutch sensors repaired. Sick to ruddy death.t

Ruddy hell I give uop trying to draw the oil gauges. Hope you can make head or tail out of it.
-
o o o o o o min..............max o o o - - - min. . . . . . . . Max (Ignore the full stops)
-
Eh? Don't you get a display the moment you turn the key that looks like this and then disappears the engine fires up? o o o o o o min max There are two points in the dip stick and the display monitors the oil level between the points so if the oil level is between the two , you get: o o o - - - min max. When the level is this, i add a litre of oil. Every C3 has it including yours. If your dealer is being a flid, kick him in the nads.

They were suprised as I was but they were not as focked off as I was. The problem has not reapeared I take it tomorrow for it to get checked. They will do the usual "plug a computer inth the cars ECU" and diagnose NOTHING. Ill report on the work tomorrow afternoon. Still love the car to pieces
-
Moose. I had it checked on the 4th. Problem went. Guess what, the problems come back. Citroen can burn for all I care.

Oh and another thing, I don't think your engine will produce its optimal performance until after 10000 miles or your first scheduled service. Driving it carefully as you do means the engine will take a while longer to "bead in" which is no shame - it means yer car will be reliable in the long term. Example. In 1998 i had a 1.6 VTR. At first I got 26mpg even though i was light on the accelerator and by 40 mph it was in top gear By the 10000 milemark onwards it was doing 37mpg overall (official figire 36.7 mpg) After that I got 41-43 no sweat . (when cold I changed gear at 2000 rpm otherwise 2500-3000 rpm). Not once have I ragged it The only persons who wil have ragged it are the reckless Citren mechanics. If them checks I specified in my fiest reply dont work, give it a little time! Good luck.
-
I am sure you did the usual "check tyre pressures, oil levels" but theres so much one can do. I had problems with my C3 Hdi between 5-7000 as it was returning 53-55 on a combined cycle no matter how safely I drove when I should have been getting around 62-65. I found out to my annoyance that the air intake pipe was incorrectly attached after work was done to the fuel filter weeks before. I took it to the dealer 3 times and got different rookies each time. I ended up fitting it meself and the economy stabilised and a range of 600 miles is guaranteed. Ask them to look at the air pipe/air filter as you may be getting a poor air to fuel mixture becaus I noticed pulling power was non existent as the engine was literally being starved of air. Also insist that the dealer checks the engine management to check the engine settings are accurate. Regards Porkpie

Oh dear good luck at the dealer. Sounds like a gremlin. Only time Aircon wil turn on is then its switched on and the fan speed is set at zero. Move the fan speed to one at least and the A/C wil restart. But seeing as yours turn on in any speed other than 0 signifies a problem. Mind that head when you see a brick wall at the dealer!

"Fancied the silver myself but decided against it for that self same reason, spotting one with a Driving Instructor cone on the roof didnt help either." it looks nice in silver but it also clashes with the interior colour. I wish there was a choice of a black interior as I got a 9 month kid and you know ow much mess they leave behind. "The black would be a logical choice with the chrome effect trimings and the Alloys........just all that cleaning. Think I'll need to go touring a few Citroen showrooms to see how it looks in the different colours." To be honest its not to much of a grumble. Black contrasts superbly with all the interior and exterior fittings. The car looks nice in lilac believe it or not. Wicked red is nice but i thought that tone of red suited a much larger luxury car. "QUOTE "Feel sorry for moose as his problem seems to be ever more isolated by Citroens inability to fix it. I had a few teething probs which is typical of a citroen product but its the best small diesel engine money can buy along with the Polo Tdi 1.4." I take it you dont have that problem on yours PP? the C3 certainly seems good vfm, as for teething probs I dont really have any issues with Citroens on my 6th one from new and they've served me well to be honest." Well I have had a few teethin' problems but thats typical citroen. Its my third citroen now. I have not had any of mooses problems. The engine is superb for a 1.4 16v. You are purchasing a state of the art engine that prduces more power than my last diesel car...a 1.9 d turbo but make sure that yours dont qualify for that recall thats hapeing. "The garage/service prices get up my nose tho no doubt it'll cost an arm and a leg everytime that service indicator lights up on the dash and thats just to get the bugger reset." The labour costs at Citroen ate nothing short of extortionate but at every 12,500 miles hopefully frequent visits wont happen. 12,500 bit down on Clios 18000 miles and VW 13--18000 mile interval. "So all things aside PP are you happy with it? I was having my doubts on the 1.4 engine size re: performance but it seems to get the thumbs up in any reviews I've read." yes mate I am happy. I am used to citroen products. Has this been my first citroen, Id have slashed my wrists. Its great value for money (Snapped one up for £2200 off the RRP) funky looks, superb equipment and the fact it sips fuel. 60 mpg guaranteed. Cheap tax and insurance. Doubts on 1.4 performance? Top speed: 112mph 0-60: 12s, thats quicker than any small diesel onthe market and that includes the Pugeot diesels which are 2 litre!!!! All 1.4 petrols dont produce nowhere near the torque (pullin power) of the Hdi. The Hdi has the same horsepower as a high performance petrol 1.4 (The Seat for example at 100 bhp) but better than most 1.4 petrols which hover around 60-80 bhp compared to 92 bhp for my car) Hope this helps.

i see youve got an SX. If its a manual geared one youve got a manual air con unit. Make sure the Aircon button is not activated before you switch the fan speed to zero otherwise the air con will turn off. If you switch the fan on again the air con will restart. This is becasue air con will only work when the fan is on.
-
I am afraid yer stuck with it as the Moduboard only comes in the exclusive trim. Does your boot have grooves that could accomodate one?
-
First of all is your fitted with the Manual or Auto Aircon?
