The service bought up no problems so I'll monitor it and if it gets worst they keep it overnight for a cold start. Why do cars always behave themselves when they are in the hands of the professional mechanics.
-
I got the Halfords own for the silver C1 and it worked out ok. Better than leaving it as exposed metal rusts very quickly.
-
Will be taking it in for it service and check up on Friday so will let you know how I get on then.

So its just a Rythm model. I remember when the VTR meant something in the Saxo. Has the price risen at all or demand fallen?
-
I'm finding my gearbox getting very stiff when trying to engage gear, especially when its cold. When going in to second when its cold it also crunchies. I'm having them look at it at the second service. Anyone else had the same problem?
-
Do they make a C1 VTR version?
-
I have managed to get my second service down to £160 with a curtosy car. Anyone got any cheaper deals?
-
This could be why some people are getting in the 40 MPGs. I'm on 20K and my front tyre's are still only half way through there life and that is with some hard cornering. Some users must be really driving their cars hard on here?
-
I assume the car was a write off? After seeing the crash test on You Tube which wasn't that great it is nice to know in the real world they stand up to a crash ok. Cool pics.

I would be very surprised if anyone else has made this mistake. I dread to think what else you are doing wrong on your car but it did provide some much needed entertainment. Happy driving

The major service is every second service, 20K etc. Standard one was £180 and Major was £220 but hoping the prices may have come down since last April when I went. I want to keep the warranty updated hence going to the main dealer. I know you don't have to go to a main dealer so long you can prove your using genuine parts but I wouldn't want the hassle of trying to prove this and I'm sure they would make it difficult. These cars have run in to a few problems.

I think you'll find that the engine turns the alternator, the electricy from the alternator goes in to the battery and the engine (Spark Plugs) feeds off the battery. Put it this way, if you start the car and disconnect the battery it will stop. Seems more problems, especially with water leaks, are starting to crop up on these cars. How much have people been paying for a major service in these credit crunch times as mine is due soon and think £220 is a bit steep. Nice to know they are the second best car for depreciation in a recent survey. The Mini came top.

Front tyre wear has a lot to do with how hard you push the car. I'm on 18K and about half way through the life of the tyres. These cars need to be looked after otherwise they'll suffer in later life. 3 cylinders are not built for strain. On the plus side my car has not had anything wrong with it and has been very good. I read the article in Evo magazine and it gave a good balanced view of the C1. Considering it is a lot cheaper than a Fiat 500 or Ford Fiesta it shows how good a cheap car it is. Whether the price remains that low with the current economic climate remains to be seen.

So how do you check the depth of a guys heart when most of us don't have one!!!!!!!!! Water in the tyre's, I think you had better leave the technical stuff up to the guys, ha ha.

The reason FORD are still about and British Leyland/Auston Rover have gone is due to the size of the company. Ford use to sell 20% of the world cars with GM selling 40% in the middle of the last centuary. We'll soon be left with just 4 or 5 super car makers as the cost of design and development becomes to much for small companies. The Princess was terrible, British cars were notoriously unreliable. Hence we don't have any majoy car manufacturer these days that is British owned. I owned two Sierra's in my time and they were both very good cars. The Austin Rover Montego I had was nothing but dreadfull.........

I can't tell much difference with the pictures of the 107 to be honest. I think the new look C1 looks a little better but the front lights need to be more angled rather than round and cute looking as it doesn't work for me. I would buy another one after the three years are up :-) How can you say the Sierra was ugly, it was a legend in its time and totally different to anything else on the market. I suppose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I think you'll find that best best pleasure of owning a C1 is that it isn't made by citroen, hence unlike your C3 it doesn't often have to get worked on. Why do people buy Citroens still as the French just can't make cars that stay relaible? I think the new front looks better but wish they would do something with the front lights as they just don't look as neat as the 107 or Aygo. The rear of the C1 is still the best of the three though. Great cars for the price :-)
-
It is just a new front bumper, hardly a whole new car? Looks a lot better though. I have noticed a lot more C1's on the road recently, are the sales picking up?
-
It pays to shop around as it does seem rather high. make sure you go with a policy that gives you a proper courtesy car as most don't come with the full package and it could leave you stranded if you have an accident and they write the car off. Turbo, what is the NSX like as I would love to own one of them?

If You Won The Lottery Would You Buy A New City Bug ?
Martin_1973_uk replied to ColinC1's topic in C1 - General
No, I would buy a much better car. I love the C1's value for money but if money was no object then their are far better cars out there to love!!!!!!!!! -
Congrats, What insurance company are you with?

If he has a histroy of this then why did she date him in the first place. Girls have a habbit of going for the bad boys I guess. I had a Mondeo that went in for repair around the front screen and it sounded a little noiseier but otherwise it was good. The C1 is so noisy anyway I'm sure you wont notice. Working for the police I doubt they'll do much with regards to the offence I'm afraid. PS - They are great cars :-)

My first bar doesn't go down until I hit 130 miles on a full tank, the second is at 230 miles then the third at 300 or just over miles. My record is 410 miles with the two bars left, costing £33.00 to fill. I'm very light footy and driving out in the countryside to work with not a single traffic light in sight, lovely. Not bad for someone living just 50 miles from London. It worked out at 61MPG :-)

My fuel consumption was good straight out of the box and never improved. The did engine loosened up better and better during the first 1K and became more useable and powerful. Fuel economy wise, I would imagine you need to change your technique. Look for guides on U Tube or from an advanced driving school.

The Alternator belt is always been driven by the engine and that is enough to provide the electrics for most things if they are used or not. All the wasted energy goes in to charging the battery. Putting on these appliances shouldn't affect the car that much. I think we have hit the nail on the head. The C1 is high geared to get this incredible economy. If you start reving it to make it go this will soon evporate. If that is your driving style and you find the C1 slow so you have to rev it then you would be better off with a bigger engine car or a diesel that might do MPG in the 40's but will be fast enough so you don't feel the need to rev it. I personally change gear early and very light with my right foot and carry the speed in to corners and roundabouts. A police driver training course could be what you need as they teach you to keep the progress without losing the economy.
