  1. The Eolys system was designed to meet Euro 4 for emissions and it exceeded the requirement. Adblue seems to be a universal European system to meet Euro 6. It would be interesting to see whether the Eolys system would meet Euro 6. However, if Boris gets his way, vehicles not meeting Euro 6 won't be allowed to drive in London after 2020! Incidentally, Francois Hollande wanted to ban ALL diesel cars from Paris. This has died down as cars with "odd" and "Even" number plates are only allowed to enter Paris every other day. (This is now being reconsidered as people staying overnight in Paris find they're not allowed to drive out the following day!!)
  2. This sounds very similar to my post: "C5 Loud "rumbling" When Accelerating Hard"so I'll keep my eye on this one and check suggestions. (Also will swap wheels back to front as I inadvertantly fitted a pair of reinforced tyres on the front wheels recently!)
  3. According to the brochure Over Boost gives another 8% torque. I wondered whether I had a problem with ESP as most of the juddering occurs whilst having to use a lot of accelerator pedal when going uphill round fairly sharp bends?
  4. Hi there - I get a loud rumbling noise from my 2005 1.6 HDi when accelerating hard. I noticed it at first when driving up hills on very narrow curving roads in Wales. My partner says she could feel juddering through her feet. On testing further I find that it occurs when I push the pedal to the metal in any gear from around 2000 - 2500 rpm. No abnormal noises when cruising at up to 80mph (when overtaking of course!) as long as the pedal isn't near the floor and no change to "normal" performance. Could this be "turbo over-boost"?
  5. Thanks John. ATB - Mike
  6. As I understand it Eolys is added to the fuel tank whenever the filler cap is opened/closed. This would mean that "passive" cleaning/regeneration of the DPF is happening all the time the car is being driven (and the temperature is high enough for Eolys to do its thing?). I'm not sure what happens when "active" regeneration is activated using a Lexia. Does the ECU just cause extra fuel to be burnt and hence more Eolys forced into the DPF?
  7. Hi John - can you just plug these LED bulbs into the holder or do you have to worry about polarity?
  8. H Paul, at the top and bottom of this post there are ads from Avon Tuning - "DPF Removal Specialist"! Mike.
  9. This makes interesting reading! Perhaps Boris could learn something! http://www.psa-peugeot-citroen.com/en/featured-content/diesel-technology
  10. I'm sure I've used the suspension High/Low positions to change wheels on both my Xantia and C5. I.e. Raised the car, stuffed the jack under the appropriate jacking point and then selected Low and the wheel came off the ground. Are you saying that all 4 wheels won't come off the ground if jacks or axel stands are located at all the positions when in High and then switched to Low? (BTW my 2005 C5 has just passed it's 10 year MOT with no probs. My MOT bloke lets me look at the underside and it's perfectly clean. Also, after 105K the EOLYS tank is still 1/4 - 1/3 full! Wonderful car!!!)

Next year try CIS (Co-operative Insurance). I was annoyed they put up my premium but tried (on-line) many other companies and couldn't get near their premium!
  12. ...and what about the 260+ "Boris Buses" fitted with Euro 5 engines? Are they allowed to drive through Islington?

Just thought I'd let you know but I was with CIS last year and they've just sent me a renewal £60 more than last year (from £268 to £328). I had a go at them and they've given me a "loyalty discount" of £21. I told them I might get back and got an on-line quote from LV, who've always been competitive. However their quote for identical cover is £410.48!! (Cover is fully comp, protected NCB, extended European cover (up to 6 months), UK and European breakdown, legal expenses, upgraded courtesy car and £250 total excess.) Looks like I'll be sticking to the Co-op!
  14. I used to go to Spain from France a few years ago to buy my (pipe) tobacco and noticed that filling stations sold a more expensive Blue Diesel as well "normal". Now I know what it was! As far as I know, most German diesel cars have nad a "Blue" tank for a couple of years or so. A chap I know has a 14 reg. A6 and was told that if the warning comes on he has 400 miles max. before the car stops. If he tops it up himself he needs to add about 5l. for the sensor to register. His Blue tank filler is next to the diesel but he needs a hex spanner (wheel nut size) to open it ! (As it's a leased car the tank is topped up every at every (18000 mile) service but he doesn't know how much it uses. However, a warning came up after he'd driven it just over 400 miles - from new!)
  15. Welcome Tucker to the wonderful world of the C5 fan club!
  16. If your C5 has the same quirks as my 2005 model it's probably the cars "system" (ECU and other management systems) shutting down. It's likely that you can operate windows, wipers etc. in this mode and then, after a faint click, you can't. (This is why one should wait a minute or so, after switching the engine off, before disconnecting any battery lead.) Also the fan might continue to operate after switching off but this is quite loud.
  17. Oh yes. I remember sorting out my son's rear brake disks and pads! Pads down to the iron and heavily scored disks - and he wondered why his hand brake didn't work very well!!!
  18. The only way I could do it on the passenger side was to take the battery out. Then of course one has to do the BSI reset, set windows etc., etc..... Driver's side is easier as you can take off the shield above the hydraulic tank.
  19. "the exclusive model of 2008 on C5 with the hydractive suspension has an electric handbrake which works on the back brakes." The first time I've heard of a Citroen with a hand brake operating on the rear wheels. I suppose it's something to do with "hill start assist" and thus having more effect when the behicle tries to roll backwards. (My MOT bloke is always amazed at the hand brake on my C5 being as effective as the foot brake!)
  20. Probably a daft suggestion as I don't know this vehicle but could it have been the gear selector, when pulled "down", interfering with the hand-brake cable for some reason (or does this C5 have an "electronic" hand brake)?
  21. "This part is not shown for the earlier C5 model. The procedures do not say how to replace it - if you get chance, ask the garage how to do this." I watched Peter Boxall (who'd never done the job before). He removed the passenger glove box and felt behind the grill on the dashboard. After a bit of fiddling he removed the connector and then unclipped the sensor. It's about 3cm square and 5.5cm long with a small tube at the front end. The new sensor was then clipped in and the connector replaced. He tested the AC/Heater and it worked! Then replaced the glove box and used his Lexia to clear all recorded faults. Total labour charged 3/4 hour + diagnostic (Lexia) charge of £25. Total bill including part and VAT £129.60. (I have a feeling he didn't charge for the time he took (about 1/2 hour) to diagnose the fault before ordering the part.)
  22. "To help others, the following is the complete relevant bit from the other forum topic from Nov 2012: 2. Code 0702 - 'Passenger humidity sensor not defined' " On mine the message was "Permanent Fault"
  23. These people say they have a downloadable version of the C5 workshop manual(s) including the X7 (after 2008). It's over 17GB but they also sell a DVD version for an extra £5.99: http://www.emanualonline.com/Cars/Citroen/Citroen-C5-Workshop-Repair-And-Service-Manual.html Haven't got one myself so can't really recommend it but.... All the best.
  24. Thanks Paul.
  25. Thanks for that Paul. I gather that a "dephaser" is the device that varies the valve timing. Is it part of the sprocket, driven by it or does the chain tensioner have anything to do with it?
