  1. Is this the method your talking about. It's a copy and paste from last year. There are several past topics on the forum where it's printed, but here it is again:- CORRECT REBOOT PROCEDURE FOR BSI Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off. Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition. Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds. Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.). Switch on the side lights through the driver's window. Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality. Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds. Remove key open & close door test central locking system. Start the engine and complete the system's check. Reset the clock and date. Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items. No - actually it was from people who'd tried raising and lowering windows up to 10 times to try to get them to operate correctly. However, I've found another "fix" on this site which involves removing fuses from the glove compartment (fuse 4 for passenger door, fuse 5 for driver's) so I'm going to try that. I also see a "used" switch on Ebay and have found a new switch on a Chinese site ! Bit reluctant to buy anything just yet ! Thanks though. I'll let you know whether ANYTHING is successful!!!
  2. "If it does not improve you could try a switch cleaner next time, which may be better at removing dirt across any contacts in the switch." Removed the assembly again and found that it's reasonably easy to take the "bottom" off. This enables all the parts to be cleaned but I found that the neoprene sheet which holds the small permanent magnets (which are brought lose to the printed coils on the PCB when the switches are operated) is slightly longer than the housing. This means that it wrinkles when reassembled and perhaps causes the problems! However, somewhere in the C5 forum (I think) is a load of info concerning the reset of the windows after battery replacement (which I now think started my problem). I can't find it! Is there a method of completely resetting the appropriate ECU (?) so my windows will operate correctly? (I've tried the procedure listed above a couple of times but can't get the driver's switches to do what they're supposed to!) Thanks.
  3. Just found this which shows the switch dismantled. (Don't know whether it'll help but.....) http://www.eurovan2.de/forum/viewtopic.php?t=305&p=1592 Mike.
  4. You're right! Wasn't even an option. So the leather seats (which started this thread!) were probably from an Exclusive. As far as I can see there are no cables attached to my seats.
  5. I didn't think the C5 VTR (2005) had electric seats? (Mine hasn't.)
  6. Managed to prise the switch out. Couldn't get the "top" of the assembly off - the mirror control "wheel" stopped it and I didn't want to try too hard! Doused it all with WD40 and left it to drain then put it back into the door panel. All working OK except the off side rear passenger window which jerks down a couple of inches at each push of the switch. This works OK from the back door switch so I guess I can live with it and, who knows, it might start working again - all by itself. Thanks for your advice.
  7. Thanks Paul. Really helpful. :)
  8. Thanks Paul. I find that the rear prises up quite easily but the front is reluctant! I'll proceed - very carefully!
  9. Thanks Paul. Mine just adjusts the position of the mirror (C5 VTR), no other bells or whistles. Can I simply prise out the switch (to give it a clean) without taking the door panel off, or am I likely to leave the cable behind?
  10. Hi there - do you know whether the driver's switch module (4 windows + mirror) is the same on the 2001 - 2004 C5s and 2004-2008 model (VTR) which I have? I looked on ebay and they all "look" the same but... (Prices are from about £20 - £60!) Thanks - Mike
  11. Only the Exclusive has Hydractive suspension. I tried the DS5 yesterday and found that a) it doesn't have rear windows that open, b) It has lower headroom than my (2005)C5 and c) It is REALLY expensive. (I keep thinking I ought to change the C5 but, after a few miles (or 4-500!) I think "WHY???")
  12. Looks like you need to take it back to the dealer or someone with a Lexia. See this link: http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/14421-daytime-running-lights/ Mike
  13. Hi there - I have the problem that the "one touch" raising and lowering of windows from the driver's switch. It doesn't work very well (most times lowers or raises just and inch or so). Can I just prise out the switch module from the door trim or is it likely to become unplugged from the cable assembly? Any idea how the "one touch" works (from all 4 switches)? Thanks - Mike

That's interesting. Last year I was with LV but they told me they didn't do breakdown insurance. I got a deal from Green Flag for £69 (including continental breakdown) but this year I went with the Co-op (CIS) as, although therir initial premium was a few quid more, they added the breakdown for £34. Both LV and CIS were cheaper than last year. Is that because females have to pay more?
  15. Went with CIS this year, they only added £34 for full European Breakdown (Greenflag is well over £100). The chap I was talking to asked if I really parked my car on a private drive. He then asked if anyone can walk down this drive and, when I said "Yes" he said "So it's just like a public road then." The upshot was that the premium was reduced by nearly £50!! (Apparently insurance companies get many, many claims from drivers who scratch their cars when entering their garage or run into obstacles on their drives!)
  16. Thanks Paul - it's the face-lift C5 (2005). When the sun comes out again I'll have a go! Meanwhile the (free) Telegraphs (from Waitrose), under the mats, are doing a grand job! (Don't know whether I'm daft but everytime I drive this car I think "This is a really nice car!")
  17. Don't know whether I'm too late to get an answer but, after all the rain I have water in the footwells. I tried rodding the tube via the sunroof and think I must have dislodged the tube. (Tried again on driver's side(stupidly) to see how far the curtain wire should travel and now that footwell is full of water as well!) It now seems I'll have to remove the head lining to drop the sunroof so the tubes can be re-connected. Had a look but can't find where or how to start unfixing the head lining! Any ideas Please???
  18. I have this problem occasionally as well; you drop the gear out of 5th and it doesn't spring back to the 3rd/4th neutral position. As it's intermittent I tend to ignore it but I believe I read in one of the topics that there are cables which can be adjusted (?). However, I will be investigating my glove box to try to gag the Traffic Master lady who's just woken up after nearly 9 years!! Very useful to troll through the forums so thanks to all you experts.
  19. I use LV or CIS and include European travel up to 90 days per trip and European Breakdown (as well as UK with Homestart). Both seem pretty straightforward but (luckily) haven't needed to claim except when my Xantia clutch failed in Calais. Three days hotel and tow to garage paid for whilst garage (Peugeot!) found the right part number to order (plastic clip joining pedal to cable), and no claims discount unaffected. Premiums are reasonable but I sometimes have to change from one to the other to get the"new customer" discount. Why????
  20. Just found this very helpful company which will supply simply the DPF (or FAP) fitted to post 9/2004 C5 1.6 HDi engines (and several other PSA cars with the same engine) for £130: http://www.cats2u.co.uk/34733/Diesel-Particulate-Filter/CITROEN/C5/1.6 or the complete CAT and DPF unit for £210 http://www.cats2u.co.uk/33950/Diesel-Particulate-Filter/CITROEN/C5/1.6 Their site has full instructions of what to check BEFORE buying a replacement unit and have emailed me with "how to split the CAT from the DPF if the vehicle still has the original part fitted".
  21. This isi the second time it's happened to my 2005 C5 1.6 HDi (96000 miles): The whistle blows, the "Engine" lamp lights and the message: "Depollution system faulty" comes on. The same thing happened every time I start the car. I panicked a bit as the car had been in for a related fault which turned out to be the switch operated by the filler cap. (Message this time: Risk of particle filter blocking) Anyway, by chance I went to open the sun roof with the ignition on but engine not started. Before it was fully open I spotted rain on the screen so closed it again. When the engine started, no whistle, no lamp and no message! It recurred the other day and stayed on for a 300 mile round trip. It's almost due for a service but thought I'd try the sunroof again. Ignition on, open and close sunroof, start engine. Result: no warning whistle, lamp or message!!!
  22. Stick with it Laura! I was introduced to Citroen by my (French) wife in 1982 after looking for a 7 seater. Peugeot 504(?) family estate was sluggish and very disappointing so she said look at the CX Familiale! I did and had great difficulty steering it at first (about 2 turns lock-lock, after 4 1/2 on my 504!) but found it incredible! Only problem was RUST! since then I've had 2 BXs (16TRS and 1.9 diesel) a Xantia and now my beloved face-lift 1.6 HDi C5 VTR, over 8 years old and 95K, 58-60 mpg (more on French Autoroutes) but what do I replace it with? We go to and come back from France with about half a ton of stuff with rear seats folded. The "new" C5 has a boot, not a hatch, and I don't really want an estate, and, unless you buy the Exclusive, you don't get the proper Citroen suspension, so I guess I'll be running it into the ground! Good Luck.
  23. Is this (DS5) supposed to be a replacement for the C5? If so, as you say, it's small and overpriced and not nearly as useful! Mike.
  24. Extremely interesting. Just goes to show not everything does what it says on the tin!
  25. I reckon the C3 was lucky as well!
