Want To Move Front Tyres With Pressure Monitors To Rear Axle
MikeLane replied to PGrehan's topic in C5 - Technical
Just found this that might help or confuse you! It seems that the pressure monitors need to know where they are and "be excited" using a Lexia! https://www.frenchcarforum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=37728 Best of luck! -
"Since Friday, I drove 6 x 30 miles and nothing happened." Do you mean you had no problems during these drives? If so it may be that the garage cleared the fault(s) without realising it. I think I'd drive it around for a few days before taking the car anywhere else (and spending more money!)
-
Was the water pump changed when the cambelt was? If the sensor gets wet after a few miles it could be that the water pump gasket(?) leaks when the coolant gets hot and pressure rises. Perhaps you could check the bolts for tightness/correct torque. (I'm not sure whether this car has a fuel lift pump in the tank?)
-
Just one more thing ref. the Turbo. It's a good jdea to let the engine run for, say, 10 - 15 secs, to make sure the oil flows through the Turbo bearings before driving off. (I start the car and then put on my seat belt and make myself comfortable!)

Still sounds like the DMF to me - particularly if it judders nearly all the time. DMFs don't get better, they get worse as more strain is put on the remaining parts and eventually you'll have no judders - and no drive. Try to find a Citroen Dealer or independent Citroen specialist as he'll probably have seen the problem before. (Still don't like the "grey smoke" from the exhaust.)

I used to get this (but for some unknown reason it stopped a couple of months ago) and thought that maybe the Eolys needed topping up. I usuallly went out after a bit of hardish driving and the car never went into "Limp Mode". I DID have a more or less permanent problem caused by a burnt out wire going to or returning from the filler cap so it never registered a refill so didn;t dose the tank.

Not sure how my CrossClimates would perform on "hard" snow as we haven't had any for a couple of years but the tread pattern is designed to perform very well in the wet and on slush. Grip and Braking performance in summer is, if anything, better than the Michelin Pilots that I've always used before (on BXs, Xantia and C5).
-
Don't like the sound of "Grey Smoke"! Could be a combustion problem so, like Paul. I think you need to get some live data to analyse.
-
Some C5s have "automatic" belt tensioners ? Could be sticking occasionally allowing the alternator belt to slacken?
-
Sounds like the DMF to me too. Mine did this, particularly on winding hills in Wales where I had to drive in third (and sometimes second) gear. Fine on the flat but eventually no drive as the DMF packed up. Had it replaced with Valeo solid flywheel conversion kit.

Any idea how much the tracking was out? (Distance between rear wheels is about 3cm less than between front wheels)

I doubt if the ride on the Mk3 Exclusive is any better than on your current model. Also, there seem to be a lot more problems reported on the Mk3 (X7) C5 than the Mk2 (2004 - 2008/9) so.......

New Tyre Advice Requested (Safety Related)
MikeLane replied to Eddles's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Bear in mind that Citroens are designed to use mainly the front brakes, the rear brakes having a much lower effect (see your MOT results), so the best tyres should be on the front wheels. A few months ago I fitted Michelin CrossClimates to replace the Pilots on the front of my C5 and I have to say they are excellent - loads of grip even in the wet. Not sure how long they'll last but ,so far, little sign of wear. Because these tyres are fairly new to Michelin they were on offer so.... -
Jump Straight In - Buying A Used Citroen Ds3
MikeLane replied to Helen_Queen's topic in Citroen DS Range
Just a thought but round here (Hampshire/Surrey/Sussex) Main Dealers don't usually have cars that old in their stock. They take them as P/Ex and sell them at auctions. However, it might be worth checking with your local dealer to see if he has a reasonably priced DS3 coming in for P/Ex (if you're not in a hurry). -
I'll check the magnets but I did have a problem when the wire to the filler cap burnt through (strangely). That was at about 75K I think and I had lots of warnings which made me take the car to my indie for a scan (that picked up the fault). Since then - no real probs so I think "let sleeping dogs......."

"Has the eolys fluid ever been topped up or the dpf cleaned or replaced ?" No and No Paul. However, I've recently notice a lingering smell of diesel after I've switched off but performance and mpg seem unaffected so... (Also passed its MOT with no problems or comments in March).
-
This is not really a problem but, for some time, I used to get the message "Risk of Particle Filter Blocking". It always disappeared sometimes after a few miles or after overtaking, I thought I might be short of Eolys but never topped up the tank and never went into "Limp Mode". Now (touch wood) and for a few months I haven't had the message! My 2005 1.6HDi has done about 120,000 miles...... I just wonder why.

To me it sounds like a (very) weak mixture on startup. Is it possible that the fuel pipe or something allows fuel to flow back towards the tank , creating an airblock and the car needs a few seconds to pump fuel from the tank to the injectors?

Rusty Nuts In Close To The Hinges Of The Door
MikeLane replied to Alexander15's topic in Questions about the Citroen C5
Might be worth taking them out - one at a time - and greasing threads and the hinge before putting them back. -
Depends what you mean by "quiet". I've always heard mine (since 2005) when it operates.

"In the Old Days" sometimes the starter jammed and to unjam it one could put the car into gear (with the ignition OFF!) and, probably with someone's help, rock it forward enough to get the engine to turn and free the starter or solenoid. Alternatively, with help, bump start it in 2nd gear and see if that cures the problem (As I said this was in the Old Days. Not sure whether it would work now but worth a try.)

Just found this on the web: https://www.asa.org.uk/rulings/de-verde-ltd-a13-228861.html However, I remember a mate in the RAF telling me that, for short periods, they could "boost" engine power by injecting "water-methanol mixture". I think the theory was that methanol does increase thermal efficiency and, during combustion, water turns to steam so effectively increases compression by adding to the volume of combustion products. I suppose one could call water Hydrogen Monoxide and methanol comprises carbon hydrogen and oxygen so no particle problems. But methanol tends to have contaminents that damage metal e.g. cylinders and fuel lines so ..... As has beenn said, the energy required to produce hydrogen and oxygen from water is more than that produced by burning the results. Maybe all this box does is add a small amount of water to the injection system.

Advice On Buying A C5 Tourer

2.0Hdi 6 Speed Automatic Slight Whine In First?
MikeLane replied to aj-c525's topic in C5 - Technical
That sounds almost unbelievable Paul. The Haynes Manual for both gearboxes (AL4and AM6) say that one should make sure the ground is absolutely flat then fill to the level plug level and let any surplus drain out, then screw the filler amd level plugs in. Next start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes. Then switch off and check the level again, topping up if necessary. Refit plugs and take the vehicle for a short run. Then check the level again (this time the oil will be very hot!). On 2001 - 2008 models the level should be checked every 36000 miles - adding 0.5 litres of fluid before one starts. I was suprised to see that Drain and Refill needs 4.5 litres of fluid and the total capacity (including torque converter) is 6 litres! Are you sure it wasn't a dealer who posted that comment? -
Just about to renew with the Co-op. Tried Direct Line - over £500 and LV - £90 more than the Co-op so, even though it's gone up by about £40 it is still the best I can find at £374 for the same cover as my previous post.
