coastline taxis Posted March 5, 2011 Posted March 5, 2011 Youl need to get the car plugged in and get a fault code. otherwise it would just be a guess as to what is wrong Quote

Nice to see some other petrol owners like me. Feeling quite marginalised! You are right - most problems are with diesels and all their complications. I am on my second petrol C5 and I did have the cat fault, which downgraded to anti pollution, then cleared ,in my old 2002 sx. It was misfiring on warm up and the problem was eventually thought to be sticking valves/lifters. Would have cost more than the value of the car to fix, so lived with it (for 4 years) The car was still going fine on 130k miles when I changed it for a 2008 mk2 2 years ago. No such problems with the newer car. You might try the basics first - plugs, air filter, before going to the garage. You can also get code readers cheaply enough which will read basic fault codes (plug is in the glovebox, behind the fuses) Good luck Quote

bazzer Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 hi there .I am wondering if any one of you guys answering this topic ,know which is the code reader I need for my car ? its a citreon C5 ,2lt hdi on a 59 plate .I have just jumped in my car to return from work and my Anti pollution warning light as come on with the engine management lit on my dash , do you have a link for the type I would needthank you Quote
paul.h Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Most code readers should work and the choice depends on how much you want to spend and what things you would like to do. A dealer type Lexia will allow many of the car's functions to be checked but a low cost EOBD reader for say about £20 will just read and clear the engine codes. For a bit more you can get a reader that will also give some live data on the engine such as temperatures. A company such as Gendan do readers and I have one of these which works well on a C3 http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_GCR25.htmlThe Lexia you would install on a lap top and these are available through ebay, with one member using easydiagnostics. Another option to consider is some members are able to help with diagnostics and there is a pinned post on one of the C5 subforums. Quote
