Guest ukwide Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Hi All, I have a 57 plate C5 2.2Hdi Auto VTX+ with 28k on the clock, which has the Satnav and Telephone built into the dash. The car is a dream to drive and with 175 bhp on tap pretty swift and quiet with it. However, every now and again (pretty random) the screen will switch off and then eventually come back to life after a couple of seconds. If you were following a destination on the satnav, it will prompt you to respond to the question 'do you still require navigation'? so it does remember it was in use. When I say it goes off, it goes off, no music, climate display and starts up with the Citroen home screen each time It's more of a nuisance than any thing else, but frustrating when following a route through a strange town and you loose all directions. Can any one help, please? Cheers GarySalisbury Quote
Guest qman3428 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Sounds like a loose connection, try cleaning the fuse and connectors there Quote
Guest ukwide Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Sounds like a loose connection, try cleaning the fuse and connectors there gman, will do this weekend, it will go for days/weeks and then switch off for no reason and power back up straight away. Thanks for the prompt response. Rgds Gary Quote
Guest xsaraiihdi Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Hi Gary I have a 57 plate C5 1560cc HDI VTX+ with the same problem so look forward to seeing if you manage to fit the problem. Mark Quote
Guest ukwide Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Hi All, well traced all the wiring as best I could, cleaned up any joints and contacts, swapped the fuse for a new one and cleaned the terminals, now just need to see if it has cured the problem. Interestingly, spoke to a friend who owns a Pug 407 with the RT4 Satnav system and he tells me his does the same and has done from new, it seems Pug have tried to correct the fault, including an upgrade by Disc but to no avail, he's put it down to gremlins in the RT system!! Cheers Gary Quote
Guest ukwide Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Having cleaned all the terminals and checked all the wiring, whilst driving back to my hotel last night, the screen switched off and came back on as usual (damn) so that hasn't fixed the issue. Maybe it needs to go back to a dealer for an upgrade (kerching)! Gary Quote
ronat Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 I have an 08 2.0HDI Exclusive, and have just had the same thing happen.I got two warning beeps, with no information about it on-screen,then the screen went blank for a few seconds, with radio off,and then it re-started and went back to normal.I recently had another incident which might or might not be related, in that I left the car ticking over and left for a few minutes. When I got back in, everything seemed to have returned to the default settings ie. seat memory, air con etc. That has only happened once, but I assume it is some sort of computer glitch.Love the car,by the way. :) Quote

But you;re right lovely car, my 2.2 hdi with the 173 brake engine purrs along at just a touch over the legal limit in absolute silence and comfort, the weekly commute to and from Manchester/Salisbury is a doddle in this car. :-) Gary Quote
Guest ukwide Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 The damn RT4 SatNav switched off 5 times in the space of 15 minutes yesterday whilst trying to navigate through a busy City Centre, not good, never does it when I don't need it! Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Gary Quote
avalon1956 Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 I`m sure you have probably cured this by now but I had the same problem. I checked everything out cables etc, nothing worked until someone told me that if the battery wasnt fully charged this could also be a problem so I connected my battery charger and saw the battery was about 50% full. Running the car with airco and everything working the battery didnt get any fuller or emptier so I charged it up and voila.... not had a screen problem since. Quote
DaveHerns Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 It seems C5's are very sensitive to battery condition and once it starts losing it's capacity ,all sorts of odd faults spring up Quote

Hi Mate, no in fact it happened again this morning at 0430 hrs whilst driving from the SW to Manchester. You may have hit on a point about the battery, I will attempt to charge it up this weekend. Do I need to do anything 1st (knowing how prone modern cars are to having something electric al slapped on them) before I attach the Charger to the battery? You would have thought 450 mile round trip to and from work each week would keep it fully charged, but then the journey up is in darkness so lights on full and the journey back usually means aircon on, radio/jukebox on, satnav on etc and during the week to and from work is only a round trip of 3 miles approx, maybe the battery does need a charge? Kind regards and thanks for the help so far. Gary Quote
paul.h Posted July 18, 2011 Posted July 18, 2011 Disconnect the battery from the car before attaching the charger. I vaguely remember somebody here having electrical problems afterwards when not disconnecting it, but may have been a coincidence. Before disconnecting it, check the battery voltage, if fully charged it should be 12.7 volts without the engine running and below about 12.3 volts is fully discharged. If it does not go to 12.7 volts then maybe it is on its way out and due for replacement - Eurocarparts are lowish cost for new ones. Before disconnecting the battery, remove the ignition key and wait a few minutes first for everything to shutdown. Reconnecting is covered in the handbook but should be done slowly - connect battery, wait a bit, put key in ignition, wait a bit, turn key to first position, wait a bit, turn key so dash lights up, wait a bit (a minute or more), start engine, put elec windows down to bottom and then to top to reset anti pinch, reset clock.
