Auto Headlamps Won't Deactivate

I wonder if anybody can help.

I am on my 3rd C5, a 2002 HDI, 2.2 SX. I am having trouble with the auto headlamps not deactivating.

I know the procedure to deactivate and reactivate them using the button in the end of the headlamp stalk but try as I might I cannot get them to deactivate (the display happily tells me when the feature is activated but it deos not show deactivation even though the chime is heard) with the result that they come on and off at random while I am driving in bright daylight. I contacted my local Citroen dealer who told me that the car would need to be connected to the Citroen computer and they would force the car to 'ignore' the auto headlamp system altogether but this would cost around £55 - £100 + VAT. So my question is does anybody know how I can resolve this issue myself?

Thanks

Only cheap work-around is to drive with sidelights on, which defeats the auto function.

Hi mate first thing to try is disconnect your battery leave it 10mins then reconnect it this fixes many random faults on c5's, try it you have nothing to lose.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the suggestions.

@coastline taxis: sorry I dont know what a lexia is!

@seefive: yep that's what I am doing for now

@woodywoodpecker: I will try the battery idea, although it was off for 20 minutes the other day when I replaced a blown headlamp bulb (my hands are a little fat to get in behind the headlamp when the battery is in place - lol).

I have just solved the same problem on my 2001 C5 2,2 HDI Exclusive SE. The problem lies in the control stalk assembly on the steering wheel known as a 'coms 2000' unit. From Citroen this will set you back about £500 but I got a new unit from Peugeotparts.com in Wigan £235 (reconditioned unit £180). There are many different variations so you will have to send your vin code to ensure you get the right one. Fitting entails removal of the steering wheel and deactivation of the air bag. If you are near Wigan they will supply and fit the part for £260. My local Citroen replacement service dealer tried the deactivation you mentioned but it did not solve the problem the lights still flashed on and off, mostly on. Now I have solved the problem I have given my treasured C5 to my son and now have a superb C5 3.0HDI V6 BMW beater - Hope this helps.
