jefflad Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Hi, I'm about to go on a long journey in my 2.0HDi Tourer and am taking a ltr of emergency oil, just in case anything happens. As such and it being for a top up I came across some oil I used to use im my petrol BMW (Castreol 0w/30) as a top up in an emergency would I be OK using this or should I buy some 5w/40 which I think I need (need to check manual). Thanks Jeff Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 For the price of a litre or a gallon even is it worth taking the chance Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Pennywise and pound foolish. There is a difference between petrol and diesel oil with most diesel oils having a detergent in it. personally i wouldnt chance it id buy a gallon of the proper stuff as the turbos on the 1.6 are horrific for going tits up and its always the oil that causes them to blow. Also if you dont use the oil then you can use it for your next oil change Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 the turbos on the 1.6 are horrific for going tits up and its always the oil that causes them to blow. That's right! Citroen have issued a detailed information sheet to dealers about changing the oil on 1.6 motors. For instance - No suction method to be used. Oil must drain completely before replacing sump plug. DaveHerns Posted August 14, 2011 Posted August 14, 2011 So what they are saying is to do the oil change the proper way !! Quote
