Hi

The outside temp reading on my 2001 C5 2.2 HDI Exclusive estate auto 64,000miles only reads between 41 & 43degs, any clues to why and any ideas of a fix please, also the rear screen wash, when the switch is turned to wash the pump runs but no water at the rear window, by the way, the wiper works ok also washing the front screen is fine.

Another problem, Having just bought the car it was only the second time I'd filled her up with diesel, I went to pay and on the way back to the car a guy on another pump asked if the silver estate car was mine, yes I said, he then walked me round the car and showed me the large pool of what I thought was the cheap diesel that was supposed to be in my tank, on the floor, a quick look under the car told me that the fuel was coming from the top of the tank at the front drivers side corner, again, any ideas please.

Thanks in advance.

Jeff.

PS. THE REAR WINDOW DOESN'T OPEN/WORK, BUT THAT'S FOR ANOTHER DAY!!!

Apart from the fuel leak, the other problems appear to be common ones on this site and may be found by a good search.

The outside temp sensor is the small lump at the bottom of the passenger door mirror and it can fail needing replacement.

The washer pump does both front and rear screens, running in opposite directions but the washer bottle outlets/pipe can block needing a good clean.

Other people do not always bother fixing the rear screen not opening.

For the fuel tank, you will have to have a look underneath and see if it has a hole or something has broken off.

As a new owner, the suspension must be set at max height with the engine running before it is jacked up or there is a risk of suspension problems. This is noted in the handbook but could be easily missed. Still use axle stands though but it does make access underneath easier.

The Haynes manual does not cover the 2.2 hdi engine but everything else is relevant.

Thanks Paul.h, We're off to our Campsite in Spain (www.fincadelapiedra.com) within the next week or so, which means the only repair I can look at will be the fuel one, I expect It's a breather pipe come off or broken, the fuel level has gone down now so It's stopped leaking, Do you know if the outside temp sensor has anything to do with the air-con?

Cheers

Jeff.

Mine was recently lifted by the garage with all 4 wheels off the ground without first raising the suspension. Do I assume that this also runs the same risk?

If so should the engine be kept running when the car is either jacked up or on a lift?

I think when the car has been jacked up without first raising the suspension, people have had problems immediately so your car must be ok - however, the risk must be there or it would not be in the handbook. Once the suspension is raised the engine can be switched off and it stays raised, mine has never lowered itself when I have been working on it.

No - the outside temperature sender is a stand alone. When you get the replacement it has two short wires attached. It's a soldering job in the back of the mirror Your fuel leak could be from the seal where the fuel gauge sender and pump goes into the tank. Access is under the back seat. Through a large grommet.

Thank you, how do 'problems' manifest themselves? & is there a fix?

If you jack up without raising the suspension, you may find that when you remove the jack the suspension is left in the low position and it's reluctant to go back to normal. But it doesn't always happen. For the first few months of C5 ownership I didn't raise before jacking but I got away with it.

Managed to buy a new sender unit at the cost of £27+ now all I have to do is fit it, had a quick look by popping off the mirror but need to go a lot deeper in, can anyone explain what I need to take off to get at it please.

Many thanks,

Jeff.
