peachy5860 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Hi, Can anyone tell me if a loud squeak from the rear of a 2001 C5 estate is normal when going over bumps or a dog getting in the boot? I've read other people saying they have noises coming from the back of the car, and I've read about Citroen's 'fix' in the form of noise insulation, but I'm not sure if that is for the squeaking that I'm getting? Thanks Quote
paul.h Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Squeaking could be suspension arm bearings - do the rear tyres lean in a bit indicating worn bearings ? Quote
peachy5860 Posted November 3, 2011 Author Posted November 3, 2011 Thanks for the reply. I've not noticed the tyres leaning in, but to be honest I haven't paid that much attention! I shall have a look when I get home. Does this mean that squeaking is not normal? Thanks again Quote
peachy5860 Posted November 11, 2011 Author Posted November 11, 2011 Hi, sorry for taking so long to reply! It would appear the rear tyres do lean in quite a bit. Is it a garage job to replace the suspension arm bearings and if so do you know how much it could cost roughly? Thanks, I appreciate your help! Quote
Johndouglas Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Is it a garage job to replace the suspension arm bearings and if so do you know how much it could cost roughly? The wearing out of rear arm bearings has been around since the days of the first BX in 1989 and the setup hasn't changed all that much. It's a job that many DIY mechanics do for themselves with the replacement parts costing around 50 quid per side. I think time wise, the book time is about four hours for the job. Last time I saw a price being quoted for the job was around £350 - but that was a couple of years ago. Quote

Thanks, I appreciate your help!bearings and seals will cost you 20 quid each side from gsf carparts, bought mine from gsf in Derby. They dont list any bearings for the c5 but bx and zantia bearings are the same part numbers. To get rid of the sqeaking spray each side of the radius arms where the bearings are with some oil, i used motorcycle chain lube because it goes on really thin but gets tacky after 5 mins, this has stopped mine sqeaking and has not done it since this was 6 months ago. your bearings will be shot if your rear tyres are wearing on the inside edge. If they are not it could be just the bearings running dry spray them with oil to see if the sqeaking stops. Quote
