nmccf Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Hi, would appreciate any help diagnosing what might be the problem with my C5. I have a droning noise while the car's in motion, it builds up as I build up speed. Don't think it's an engine problem as when I depress the clutch the noise continues, and only stops when I slow down again, I no little but thought that were it an engine problem then when I depress the clutch and let the engine idle it would stop. I pumped the car up and had a hoke around the tyres, and there's nothing rubbing against them. Anyone have any ideas, and if so can you guess approx the cost to fix, and the likelihood of the car being dangerous to drive? Thanks. Quote
paul.h Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 Could be a wheel bearing. If it is louder when turning left or right this could indicate which it is as more weight is put on the outside of the bend. To check, jack up each wheel in turn (after putting the suspension on max height to avoid suspension problems) and spin the wheel - it helps to push back the brake pads - and listen for the noise and feel for any roughness. Web sites such as Eurocarparts will give a replacement part cost. Quote
coastline taxis Posted February 22, 2012 Posted February 22, 2012 possible wheel bearings or the diff whining jack each wheel up one at a time and spin it as fast as you can you should be able to hear the rumbling for the diff its best to just drain all the oil out and replace with the right amount of new oil. 1.9 litres drain plug on bottom of gearbox and remove reverse light switch on top of box to fill it Quote
