Hello everyone,

My rear heat shield came loose and began scraping on speed cushions. I asked the garage to secure it when getting another repair done, and they said it should just be removed (adding that they remove them all the time).

Does this sound right? Can removing the heat shield potentially lead to any problems in the future?

Thanks,

Brigus

I'm not familiar with the C3's underside, so can't really advise, but if Citroen thinks it's a good idea to have a heat shield there, then I should keep it. There are several heatshields on my cars, most of them protecting plastic parts from the hot exhaust. The fuel tank is manufactured from plastic!

Thanks for your response John - not what I wanted to hear but more-or-less what I expected!

I have to agree with you, but the guy at the garage was very sure about it - it's also an expensive part to replace for what is really just a bit of shaped aluminium.

I'll have to sleep on it

Are there any other experiences or thoughts about it out there?

Cheers

If it is just loose due to corrosion around the fixing holes can it not be refastened using large diameter repair washers from such as toolstation/B&Q with a bit of grease between the washers and aluminium to prevent further corrosion.

That would have been a good idea Paul, but unfortunately it was quite mangled from a few days' worth of scraping speed cushions. If only I had dealt with it earlier.

A few weeks ago I got a C3 tailgate from RC Edley in Scunthorpe (01724 280 915) from a 2002 C3 1.4 petrol. I do not know if they still have the rest of the car. May also be worth getting a price from a dealer as a comparison since delivery charges could be relatively high making a s/h part not much less than new.

Thanks again for your comments. You've convinced me to get a new one - I've been searching ebay for a new one when I get a spare moment. If no luck there, I'll pick one up from a parts wholesaler nearby.

Cheers

The rear heat shield on our C3 came loose this week and it was fixed back on using large repair washers, fortunately before it became damaged.
