andy thomas Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Hi all, I have the customary door lock not opening problem. To complicate things the child lock is on so I cant open the door at all!! I have changed the lock on the other door but this is obviously impossible with the door locked. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Quote
kfk Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Unfortunately you may find you have to remove the interior door trim and then break the door catch from inside the door. Sometimes a 'firm bang' on the door around the lock area will allow it to open......but dont dent the door Quote
andy thomas Posted May 11, 2006 Author Posted May 11, 2006 Thanks for that, is there not a way of (once the trim is removed) either whacking the lock from the inside or anything similar. Thanks Quote
kfk Posted May 11, 2006 Posted May 11, 2006 yes, its called a hammer, and you break it.......the lock unit is sealed, you need to smash it off Quote
greyboy Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 I had the same problem on my C5. I put it into the local Main Dealer and the bill was around £130, with the part being £60 odd plus VAT. The old part was smashed to pieces to remove it. The good part was that i had a modified plastic sump tray fitted free at the same time. Apparently the earlier models were prone to falling off! Quote
charlie Posted May 20, 2006 Posted May 20, 2006 Had the same on my L/H rear door. Had to resort to destroying the cover on the lock with a good set of pliers to get at the mechanism within the door. The root cause of the problem was a plastic pin falling out of the child lock mechanism which I replaced with a good old fashioned nut and bolt. Door lock has been working perfectly since. Quote
newbie1122 Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 Hello All, I have exacly the same problem, L/H rear door stuck with child lock on so no way of opening it. I have an appointment with the main dealer but do not want to pay £100 + after just spending £300 + on gear linkage cable !!!! How do you get the door trim off fronm the inside...i have taken off the three bolts. Is there more??? the bolts around the speaker ? Please help as I do not want to give the dealer anymore money !!!! Thanks Jeff Quote
iannez Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 as kfk said a few bangs on the outer door handle while working the remote locking usually gets it open and makes it a bit easier to work on. Quote
fallingoverdrunk Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I had a variation of the above......the left rear door lock locked.......the hilarious thing was that the door was open at the time... Imagine driving 50 miles to my dealer to get the lock fixed with the door held closed with a scarf tied from one inside handle to the opposite one. Thank God I didn't need to have my daughter in her car seat Needless to say, the dealer had never heard of any problems with door locks before....Thanks to all the good people here I knew different.....brazen sod ! Was tempted to aim a swift kick in the direction of his joins, but thats a legal minefield.......bring back the old days of flogging....etc..... :D Dealer replaced the lock finally Cheers Quote
newbie1122 Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 Hello, Thanks for the advice....but still no luck... i have hammered away to try and get it open but doesn't even budge. Im beginning to wonder why i ever got this car...nothing but issues !!!How do you get the trim off from the inside without opening the door ? Thanks Jeff Quote
paul.h Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 You may be able to get the trim off with the door shut (not done this myself). From the French ETAI C5 book looks as if following applies:Pull off top rear black plastic triangle, remove plastic cover behind door handle, remove pull handle - cover then screws holding to door, remove speaker grill and speaker to get at screw behind, now should be able to pull off trim which is held on by clips at the outer edges - would normally use a lever between the trim and door. Hi, everyone. I have owned an 02 reg 2.2 diesel for about 2 months now 50,000 miles & full main dealer history. I was just getting to really like the car couldn't fault it for power, economy, comfort, all good. THEN I came out from work as usual pressed the remote saw the the flashers work and tried to open the door. Stuck! tried the rear door stuck! went round the other side both stuck. tried with the key still no luck tried several times more with remote & key no chance.the only thing working was the hatch. So I climbed thro' hatch & tried to open doors from the inside still no chance, started engine worked central locking on dash still no. Phoned R.A.C. nice guy, went thro basics, checked fuses, disconnected battery waited for computers to reset etc. Still no good. phoned a couple of garages he knew but without Citroen's software couldn't help. His best guess was the body contol module whatever that is & only citroen could help. So I was left having to climb in & out of the drivers window until I could get it down to Citroen. Took it to Citroen & was phoned later that day " Your car sir it seems that the computer controlling the central locking has sustained an ingress of water & the connectors are green & corroded & manky total cost with new module, diagnostics, re-coding keys & sealing where the water has seeped in £650 pounds " !!! What can you do ? you can't climb thro' the window forever. So I give the go ahead. but the part is not in stock. So 3 days later " Your car sir we have fitted the computer but it still wont work the door locks" I discover also they still haven't managed to open a door yet. "We have managed to get a rear panel off & connected a new lock motor in place & the computer works this. It looks like when the computer shorted it also damaged all the door motors & we will have to break into each door to renew them. the cost will now be £930 " "WHAT" "I know sir but all I can say is you have been terribly unlucky our technician has never had anything like it " So that is my story of the C5 I have to learn to trust & like the car all over again it won't be easy. It's not like I have spent the money on a repair like a turbo or a particle filter or an exhaust system or anything that would improve performance or enhance it in any way BUT CENTRAL LOCKING I ask you shouldn't this last out the car, after all how many times is it used ?. Quote
hertsnminds Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 after all how many times is it used ?. 02 reg = 5 years = 1825 days Car used twice a day = 4 activations = 7,300 activationsCar used 4 times a day = 8 activations = 14,600 activations central locking has sustained an ingress of waterAll of the above aside, if you pour water onto most electrics no matter how old they are they will fail. I have had similar problems with a BX ABS system where it wasn't the first part that got replaced that solved the problem. It is a shame they can't try a part to see if it works before charging you for it and then move on to the next part in the chain to fix a fault. IanBlack 55 VTR+ Quote
paul.h Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Flatiron,So this does not happen again, it is worth checking for water ingress. Are the carpets getting wet at the drivers side ? If the lower windscreen scuttle and drivers wiper spindle are not sealed then rain goes in to the cabin air intake which sits just below the grommet. The scuttle being plastic expands/contracts a lot with the sun so the sealant needs to be flexible. I sorted my car by putting a plate under the grommet to direct water away, put drain holes in the air intake and put lots of sealant on the intake where it connects to the bulkhead and sealed the scuttle against the glass. proinnsias Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 As an aside - I used have that problem too - and again child-locks on The easiest workaround I found was the kick-back feature ... I'd walk around the car, throwing something in the boot (or just opening the boot) and "lock" the car by remote with the boot open. Worked every time - the kick-back safety feature unlocked all the doors including the one with the stuck lock ... worth a try ! P Quote
hobbsy Posted October 24, 2007 Posted October 24, 2007 I’ve just tried something with my C 5 after having both back doors locked from the outside. I engaged the child lock on both and went through a system of opening and shutting the doors from outside. which seems to have worked. Although I'm expecting the problem back again at some stage  Quote
Guest Timcitroen Posted November 4, 2007 Posted November 4, 2007 Hi, Just had the same problem ! Unbolt the internal door handle, take of the speakers cover with a small screwdriver (Pry it off) and remove screws, then take off the plastic trim in back corner by window carefully with a small screwdriver, Take off the internal door trim "This can only be done by lifing the seat for more room the prying the panel off from the top and working round carefully to unclip the panle without damaging the clips (Clips 10p from the dealer to replace!) , cut the foam covering underneath with a pair of scissors, remover the door latch from the metal rod carefully dissengaging it with damaging anything - You then have to unbolt the outside door latch from the inside - One bolt hold that in place, when youve taken the bolt out slide the metal casting backword from the back of the internal side of the external hand latch, You should then be able to remover the door latch from the outside being carefull to unclip a small metal lock rod, lift the door latch off - The you shoul be able to see the inside of the plastic backing of the lock on the inside of the door - If you open the plastic cover up from the ouside the internal part of the childlock should fall aweay and dissengae the child lock and the door will open from the inside ! Open the door from the inside now remove the door lock bolts on the opened side part of the door the lock will drop away - you also need from the side part of the door to unscrew the bolt holding the bottom of electric window track to be able to remove the lock mecahnism - Now you just need to get a lock from the dealer or if luck the local scrap yard and put it all back - Its quite just sounds difficult but its not impossible !
