Dircon Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Hello,I have seen many variation regarding the BSI Reset procedure. In every case it is never explained what to do with the Side, (Some say Head), Lights, after they have been switched on through the Driver's Window. My question is: Do I switch the Lights Off Before I start the Engine, or do I start the Engine whilst leaving the Lights On?Thanks,Paul Quote
Bobster Posted February 9, 2013 Posted February 9, 2013 Hi Paul, When it was first explained to me, the switching on of the sidelights was to absorb any voltage spikes and thus protect the electronics. I guess that once the BSI is powered and rebooted, it probably does not matter whether they remain on or off; I have though always started the engine with them on. Best wishes, Bob. Quote
dellboy100 Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 Maybe this is a silly question, but what does disconnecting the battery to reset the bsi actually do? C5 newby - 51 plate atuo 2.0 HDI. Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 The BSI controls all manner of electrical gismos on the car. If or when one of them malfunctions, going through the battery disconnect in the proper way will reset the BSI. In the past I've used it to correct the window opening and closing and also the non-working of the power steering. Quote
dellboy100 Posted September 12, 2013 Posted September 12, 2013 Ha that sounds like a good idea for my bucket of bolts right now. Where can I find the correct way to do it? Thanks. Derren Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 13, 2013 Posted September 13, 2013 Where can I find the correct way to do it? There are several past topics on the forum where it's printed, but here it is again:- CORRECT REBOOT PROCEDURE FOR BSI Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.Remove key open & close door test central locking system.Start the engine and complete the system's check.Reset the clock and date.Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items. Hi John hanks for that. One question however, I don't have the key fob/remote key. When I bourght the car, only had the coded key for the imobiliser, so can can I lock/unlock manually? Derren Quote
Johndouglas Posted September 14, 2013 Posted September 14, 2013 Making a guess - I'd say it would be OK. When I first got my C5, when I needed to disconnect the battery I never did the lines "Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.Remove key open & close door test central locking system".It didn't seem to have any ill effects. paul.h Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 The question has been asked what to do if the window will not wind down (eco mode) and following a test by ivorcitroen, if the driver's door is opened, the latch can be closed using a screwdriver and then the car thinks the door is closed since the courtesy light in the test went off. It appears the sensor for the door closed/open is in the door lock, although this has still to be confirmed by somebody. So, if the driver's window can not be opened, before disconnecting the battery, open the door and keep it open but close its latch with a screwdriver - once the reset has been completed the latch can be opened again using the door handle Quote
