deBooza Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 HiCar is 2002 C5 2.2HDi Exclusive Estate.Put it in for an MOT and it failed on the main headlight beam staying on. If you put it on(pull on the left stalk while the lights are on)then try to turn it off full beam remains on. It also does thiswhen, for example, you flash someone during the day when no lights are on, the main beam still remains on. To turn them off you have to indicate right, flash the lights, stop indicating then flash again. This then turns the beam to dipped. I've not tried any other combination but I reckon there are others. It failed on the switch. On looking deeper(googling etc)the it seems likely that the com2000 unit is at fault.Yesterday and today the date has reset itself. I'm not convinced the two are related as the MOT station left the car outside with the main beam on. Of course, battery went flat and I got them tojump it. I know from the past that a dead battery on these cars has strange effects and I'm thinking that the date resetting was due to no battery life.If it is the com2000 I will get one myself and fit it or at least try.Questions are:1) Does the new unit need reprogramming in any way or is it simply a case 'out with the old, in with the new'?2) Could someone give me a step by step guide on removing the steering wheel and the com2000? I'll scour the forumn toofor any info. I can find.3) Given that there is an air bag in the steering wheel should I(amateur mechanic) even attempt to do it?I'm hoping I can fix this as the car is in superb condition and drives like a dream. If I can't I'll be sadto break/scrap it.Thanx,DFB. Quote
deBooza Posted April 6, 2013 Author Posted April 6, 2013 After a bit of phoning round I've decided to get rid of the car. I'll be putting it up for spares or repair. Quote
paul.h Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 A bit drastic, I think a new comms unit is £100-200 and only needs programming if you have esp to calibrate the steering angle sensor. I seem to remember from coastline's posts that whilst they all have different part nos. any may do so a good second hand one may sort the problem. If the battery does go flat or is disconnected the date has always needed resetting on my cars so most likely this is nothing to do with a dodgy light switch. Replacement of the comms unit is covered in the Haynes manual although it does not cover the 2.2hdi engine. Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 40 min job and second hand comm unit £20 so wouldnt be selling the car Quote
