ej2095 Posted May 30, 2013 Posted May 30, 2013 Hi all Bought the car in March Done small service with oil etc But always had the fuel flap is open warning?? Is this an easy fix please. It does go off its just annoying thats all Quote
paul.h Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 Welcome to the forum. It could be the switch at the top left that the flap pushes against when closed is faulty. With the flap open, try pushing the switch a few times to see if this can clean up its contacts (or turns off the warning with the flap open) or maybe the electrical connector inside the wheel arch is a bit loose or dirty, or maybe the flap is not pushing the switch in far enough. The Citroen procedures do not say how to replace the switch (part no. 6554 GS) but a guess is if it can not be done from the outside, it is done by pushing or pulling it from inside the rear wheel arch and should not take long. Edited - see later post. If you do need to go under the car always use axle stands, there is a pinned warning on this - if the height sensor is caught it could cause the car suspension to drop. Quote
ej2095 Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 Thank you will take a look when i get five Quote

paul.h Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 That is the switch shown in the parts diagrams, there ought to be an electrical connector to plug on to it, probably hanging inside the wheel arch. Edited, see next post Quote
paul.h Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 I have done some checks on our C5 2007 2.2 hdi estate. To get the fuel flap warning up (a picture on our car), the fuel tank filler cap has to be off the car. Leaving the fuel flap open or pushing that switch does not do anything - the switch is probably only to push the flap open and probably does not have any electrical parts so forget about it. The filler cap contains 2 magnets on the filler neck side which are sensed inside the car and are used as part of the system to inject eolys fluid in to the diesel tank, so the car knows when it has been filled with diesel and applies on cars with the exhaust particulate filter like yours. So, the things to check are- is the filler cap the original Citroen one, does it still have the magnets in it- the sensor on the inside of the wing. If you still have a working exhaust particulate filter it is probably worth sorting this since if the eolys fluid is not being injected then the filter may block up. Many have had this filter removed or drilled out and the ecu software modified to remove references to the filter rather than pay the cost of the fluid topping up and the filter replacing at about 70k miles Quote

This is the best explanation I have come across about this problem. Will be checking the things you mention on my 2007 C5 Sedan. I also checked the visible switch(?) like ej2095 did and realised that it wasn't a switch at all. I live in Northern Australia and Citroens are pretty rare on the road here. I am a member of Aussiefrogs forum and would like your permission to repost your answer in that forum (as nobody seems to know about this problem). Cheers..... Kev Quote
paul.h Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Welcome to the forum, no problem in copying or rewriting/editing the solution elsewhere. This forum is particularly good for the C5, many members have them and there are some experts on here looking after them. Quote
coastline taxis Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 hello australia and wlcome to sunny england ha ha Quote
kev1952 Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Thank you both for your welcome. I figure that I would be able to get more info on my C5 from a UK site as Citroen in Australia is considered part of the luxury import market and not common on the roads here. Have been reading through your forums and found them to be very interesting with some very knowledgeable people. Cheers... Kev Quote
kev1952 Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Update: Checked the fuel cap and, sure enough, one of the magnets is missing. Took the cap off and gave it half a turn. Reinserted it and locked it. Problem solved!!!! Thanks again. Quote
paul.h Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Thanks for getting back with such a simple fix - I have added it to the Common Problems post in the Technical Section. Quote
kev1952 Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 (edited) Thanks, Paul. Note that this fix only worked because there was still one magnet in the cap (I assume the sensor is only on one side of the filler neck). Edited November 27, 2013 by kev1952 Quote
