jefflad Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 Hi, My C5 (2008 tourer) is losing fluid from the power steering fuid. I've had it in my local garage and and he said the seals on the pipes are gone but to get a replacement seal he has to buy the whole pipes to do this as not sold seperately. He hasn't gave me a price as yet but listening to him, he sort of gives the impression it's around £500. Would I be better taking to a citroen dealer or specialist or will I be faced with the same issue of having to buy pipes I don't need for the seals? Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/419-PIECE-RIC-RUBBER-O-RING-SEALS-SET-PLUMBING-TAP-WASHER-ORING-PLUMBERS-/160764223324?pt=UK_DIY_Materials_Plumbing_MJ&hash=item256e4b5f5c Weve used these for years and have worked well on various cars including citroens. and never had a problem with them and are just so cheap Quote
paul.h Posted June 12, 2013 Posted June 12, 2013 The Citroen parts diagrams do not list any seals for the latest C5 but do for earlier models where the pipes join the rack and pump. Maybe these will fit or the dealers have a supply since the procedures for the latest C5 mention replacing the pipe seals at the rack. The ebay ones look good value. Quote
jefflad Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 Interesting link that coastline but after reading Paul's message I wonder if my local garage know what they are doing or how I'd suggest he uses these rings? Coastline, can you recommend a decent garage in the North East for Citroen issues? Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 When we get stuck we go straight to town center citroen. Reasonable rates and work done to a excellent standaed. What your asking the garage to do is a very basic and straight forward fix and should give them no peoblems at all. A lot of garages are not to sure about citroens but if you just explain to him that youve been on this forum and that we think that there is a cheaper option and show him the o rings. They should be happy as its a easier job just changing the seals as the pipes dont have to be removed. What part of the north east are you in Quote
paul.h Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Just noticed jefflad has Newcastle as his location - looks as if you could have a new customer, South Shields is not too far away. Quote
coastline taxis Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 South tyneside Snap. couldnt look at it till a week come monday due to taxi tests all next week. But if the garage that your using can take one of the o rings of ill hapily sort them out with replacement or i could drop them off to them or you can wait Quote
jefflad Posted June 13, 2013 Author Posted June 13, 2013 That's very kind. I'll speak to the garage involved and take it from there. I'm thinking I'll buy the O rings (can't come in wrong) and let him decide if he can manage it. I'll keep you updated and thanks again. Quote
jefflad Posted September 30, 2013 Author Posted September 30, 2013 Hi, just an update on this... Had the car in 2 garages, one the mechanic then took ill and was/is off work, he was getting a price for the work. The second an indepenant Citroen/Pug garage... they tried to replace the seal but couldn't stop it 100% but it wasn't leaking so badly, ended up taking to Citroen dealer for price and they quoted £1633 to replace the stearing rack and some other pipe attached to that. The funny thing is Citroen are saying the leak is from where the 2 pipes join i.e. where the rubber seal is but insist on replacing the 2 pipes I've complained to Citroen UK and they stand by their dealer. I rang the independant Citroen garage to quote for this job too but have not returned my calls. My options are to find a new garage willing to do the work and cheaper or trade in and go back to my usual choice of VW's :) Quote
