Hello guys, Am new to the forum and new to citroens you can say.

Anyhow, I bought a Citroen C4 VTR Plus 2l diesel.

However upon doing my research I quickly found they have a known issue, Leaking injectors. So, I've booked the car into a citroen dealer to get checked, Of course I still have parts and labour on the car as it's still newish

Am going to ask foke here if they believe this is a leaking injector?

Thanks all.

Welcome to the forum.

What I have read elsewhere is that a leaking injector can lead to diesel runaway and oil contamination. So for this to happen, the injector must leak into the cylinder and not externally. Your picture might be showing a joint leak that may need sorting.

However, lets see if there are any more comments from other members.

Quick easy way to test for external leaks. Get some washing up liquid and mix it 50/50 with water and squirt onto the injector with the engine running. if theres a leak itl froth and foam everywhere. Internal leaks require the injector to be removed and tested. you would no if you had one leaking as youd get rough/lumpy/misfire running of the engine

I've spoken to citroen and they've told me that I need 4 new injector seals and a new EGR. This is covered for free, Is the injector seals for external or internal leaks?

It will most likely be the seals that seal the outside of the injectors against the cylinder head so gases from inside the cylinders do not blow out passed the injectors - part no. 198143 or 198196 (imagine this as the sealing washer on a spark plug). To fit these will require the injectors to be removed, which sometimes can be difficult. If these are the seals, it will not be to stop external fuel leaks or an internal fuel leak from the injector in to the cylinder (imagine this as a dripping tap).

So I don't have much luck avoiding a turbo runaway anytime soon then? That's wonderful, Might return the car. I don't like the idea of spending a lot of money for a car that has a time limit.

Also to note, I told them the injectors were leaking. As in fluid, Wouldn't this be a different seal from the one you are speaking about?

If the injectors were leaking fuel in to the cylinders, as coastline has said, it would give running problems. If they were leaking like this, the solution would be new or reconditioned injectors. I am not sure how frequent this event is and causing the engine to not stop (runaway) since the same engine is used on other cars (2.0 hdi 138 hp) and it has not been mentioned before on here as far as I can remember (perhaps on the site where it is reported you could search and count how many times it has happened and let us know).

There have been a few cases of diesel runaway mentioned in Car Mechanics this year and most seem to have been due to a high engine oil level, 1 was possibly a blocked air filter and others possibly a worn turbo. If runaway does occur, it means the engine will not stop from the ignition key since it is using the engine oil as fuel, sucking it out of the sump. If it happens, the reports recommend stalling the engine using the clutch and brakes before all the oil has gone and the engine is damaged. One advantage of Citroens, they show the oil level on start up.

Note, in a few weeks I will move this topic to the C4 section so it is not lost.

Sorry for posting in the wrong section, Still finding my way.

I guess I never noticed that the engine is used in more than just my type of car. It's like audis 1.9 TDI which is used in most diesel cars.

I'll let them fix the seals and replace the EGR valve for free. I have to talk to them about the drop links too as they seem rather broken to me. I think my new rule of thumb will be to sniff the oil for diesel and check that the fluid is not too high or too low if you think this is suitable?

Oil level checks are always worth doing, especially after a service. I can not remember our C4 1.6 hdi 2008, but some Citroens had a dip stick with a yellow plastic end which can drop off - if so, it has been reported the lost plastic bit does not cause a problem but another dipstick is needed.

I checked the injector part nos. and they are the same on the C5 as the C4 and this forum has many C5 owners with the 2.0 hdi and so far no reports of a runaway.

If the anti roll bar drop links are worn they may give a knocking noise - this was the case on our C3 and it was also an advisory at an MOT.

Well it's nice to know I have the same injectors as the C5 but without the DPFS etc :P Quite the catch this car was then!

Well worth keeping it then, Am honestly quite happy with it.

Anyhow, Yes there's knocking when I go over bumps and potholes at the fronts, Upon moving the drop links theres quite a fair bit of play in them. So I think it's time for a replacement!

I have a yellow plastic dipstick, Can you order something that's not going to break off?
