UVG Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 Hello Everyone I've just added a 55 plate C5 1.6hdi VTR Estate to my line of Citroens. I've had it for a couple of days now and I'm very happy with it so far I could really do with an owners handbook if anyone knows where I can download one seem to be able to find the newer model but not the facelift series 1. I've been running Citroens for years now, in fact I've only every had one car that wasn't and that was my first one after i passed my test. The list includes a CX Prestige, Two BX's, a ZX, a Xantia and my beloved XM which I have just had to retire (and will be Ebaying shortly :( ) the C5 looks like it might be a good replacement. would have preferred the 2.0 but times are hard and the 1.6 seemed the more economical choice (plus it was the only one available). I didn't know it had an openable rear window when I bought it. unfortunately it doesn't work but I've already found a detailed set of instructions on this forum on how to fix it so will have to have a go when I get a minute and thanks to whoever posted it (sorry didn't keep a copy of the name). One last thing before I sign off can anyone tell me if the dash will always say there are no rear seat belts fastened even if there is no one sitting in them? anyway that's enough from me for now. I'll be back with questions (and hopefully answers too) on a regular basis. Cheers and Happy Motoring UVG Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Hello and welcome to the forum. Yes - a handbook for the more up-to-date models is available on line. If you join Citroen.service, the oldest version you'll be able to down-load is for 2007/8 models. You probably know about doing regular, early oil changes with good quality oil on the 1.6 engines to avoid turbo troubles. The rear window failure is a known problem on C5s and I doubt whether there's an original window still working. As far as the rear seat belt sign goes, I'm afraid you're stuck with it. The warning will continue to come up, even when the seats are folded. Quote
paul.h Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 There is a C5 2005 to 2007 handbook on ebay for £19.99 and this may be your only option to get one.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Citroen-C5-Owners-Handbook-Manual-and-Wallet-05-07-/290932712796?pt=UK_CarParts_Vehicles_Manuals_Litterature_ET&hash=item43bcf0e55c However, you can still ask on here until you manage to get one. UVG Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Thanks for the responses guys I've already read some of the stories on here about the 1.6 so yes I've already decided to do an oil flush and then regular and earlier oil changes. as to the rear seat belts I assume there are no sensors to say someone is sitting in them just to say weather the buckles are fastened? as for joining Citroen service I've already looked and as you say only covers the earliest version of the newest model I'll keep trying unless someone has one I can borrow and I'll scan it UVG Quote
paul.h Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 Just had a look at our handbook, about 200 pages, not A4 size, a glued spine - so to scan will take about 3 hours, maybe 100 Mb or more file size so too large to send by email, the outside of the scans may be black unless each page is adjusted to size, the spine would likely be damaged, to print it if about 5p per page about £10 and then A4 size and need a folder to keep it in.Conclude: the ebay one does not seem a bad price. However, there may be other sellers or car breakers with a C5 in who would sell for less, so could be worth a few phone calls. The rear seat bases can be tilted up and unclipped easily to remove to give more space and do not have any sensors. The seat belt warning light should go off after a while. Quote
UVG Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 when you put it that way the ebay one does seem like a good idea thanks for the info I assume that a handbook for any series 1 will cover most options even if mine is a facelift version as I understand it the cars are virtually the same? seat belt warning does go off just wanted to make sure it wasn't a fault that needed fixing as I plan to repair any faults that I can Quote
paul.h Posted June 23, 2013 Posted June 23, 2013 The 2001 to 2004 model has a few differences to the 2004 to 2007 model so make sure you get the later handbook. The 1.6 hdi was not an option in the earlier model. Quote
UVG Posted July 4, 2013 Author Posted July 4, 2013 Rang the local dealer on a whim to see how much an owners manual would be was amazed only £15 that's cheaper than ebay for a new one so I ordered one :P Quote
paul.h Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Good result. I have seen this before on ebay where s/h stuff is trying to be sold at about (or more than) new prices, so always worth checking the dealer. Same applies with pattern parts sellers such as eurocarparts and with the dealer stuff you know it will fit. Sometimes the dealer will give a discount if you go there a lot. Quote
MikeLane Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Hi there - I've had Citroens since 1984 (2 yo CX Familiale - a wonderful car except for the rust! I couldn't believe the ride!) Since then I've had 2 BXs (16 TRS petrol and 1.9 Diesel) a 1.9 turbo diesel Xantia and now my 2005 C5 VTR 1.6 HDi which I bought new. Been very pleased with all of them.Recently had a problem with filer cap switch (broken or burnt through wire) and an odd message (Depolltion system failure) which went away when I opened and closed the sun roof! Between 57 and 62 mpg and 93000 miles. Still goes better than the 16TRS BX!Best of luck to you. Quote
