les-cumbria Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 bought a cheap memoscan on ebay to turn off the engine management light and run a diagnostic test, plugged it in and it lit up went through trying to get the codes then got an error "link error" tried a few times and followed the details but still the same, its a late 2004 so should work, got back to the seller and he said did i check on the emissions plate to see if it said OBDII but I couldn't find it.It's only compatible with 2004 on diesels he said - so tried it on my other car which is a xara picasso 2005 - still the same error. He now says there has been incompatibility reported on citroens before. Is he feeding me bull and has anyone got these going on here. He suggests using a diagbox now - im not a garage so wont be buying one!!! Wonder if there is anyone in North Cumbria who could assist please? Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 I've got an Autel Maxiscan and it works OK on my C5. Nowhere near as good as a Chinese Lexia but it shows fault codes and also quite a bit of live data. Maybe your machine is faulty. Quote

Maybe your machine is faulty.according to the citroen data mine is fitted with an EOBD so it should have worked but am aware that the stated dates for compatibility is late 2004 and mine is 30/09/2004 so its pretty near, i understand that the lexia will definatly work but can't afford one of those but will look at a maxiscan Quote
paul.h Posted August 14, 2013 Posted August 14, 2013 Gendan do some decent code readers that may be worth a look at. Years ago I bought a Sealey Citroen one from Gendan, a bit expensive when compared to ones now available and the Chinese Lexias but from memory, it worked on our mark 1 C5 2.2 hdi, reg July 2004. Still need to check with the supplier though or if there is a supplier near you or somewhere on your travels, see if they will try one before buying. Quote
les-cumbria Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 Ok its now sorted, 1st sold the memoscan to a guy who had a mondeo i insisted in testing it on his car just in case it was faulty and it worked ok on the mondeo, one interesting thing he told me about his car and the reason for wanting it was that his engine light came on whenever he filled up with Tesco, asda, morrisons or sainsburys but when filling up with BP or Esso the light didn't come on and the fault showed up as an EGR fault - interesting!!! I bought a sealey 8800 from amazon for £34.75 yesterday and it arrived today, plugged it in and it read the codes straight away and i cleared the codes job done 2 minutes!!! Quote
