DLReading Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Could someone please advise if I can buy a standard high street coolant (i.e Halfords) to top up my C5? I've had the low coolant warning a few times over the last year and have just added a few hundred mils of water each time. I now think it's time to put some proper coolant in! Is a modern OAT type fine for my engine? So I need to mix what I buy or having added water a couple times can I just pour in, say, half a litre to a litre (obviously I'll use the tank level markers when doing it)? Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 I wouldn't mix another brand of anti-freeze with what's already in the system. They might not be compatible. I have Halfords five year antifreeze in my C5 but I took the opportunity to flush and change the original coolant when the water pump was being changed. Quote
paul.h Posted August 16, 2013 Posted August 16, 2013 Citroen sell the proper Glysantin G33 coolant in 1 litre packs for a similar price to other places, approx £5. It is coloured blue and is an OAT based antifreeze, but the different colours of antifreeze do not really mean anything. You can read up on it on the BASF website. Obviously, look to see if there is a coolant leak since the level should not be going down. Quote
