RichL72 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Hi, I have recently bought a 2009 C5 Exclusive Tourer 2.2 from a dealer. I have noticed though that the tire pressure system does not appear on the dash board after pressing the check button. On checking the wheels it looks like they have the tire pressure valves. Is there anyway of turning this system back on? I'm sure being the Exclusive model it would have had the system installed. Regards, Richard Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Your car is later than mine so there's quite a few differences between the two. With mine, I don't know whether the system is working or not - until I loose some pressure in one of the tyres. Then, after I've driven for 100 yards or so, the system bleeps and a plan of the car is shown on the centre display with the offending wheel marker flashing. The spare wheel doesn't have a sensor valve fitted, so if the spare is fitted, the system is thrown into confusion. I use a breaker's alloy wheel, complete with a sensor as a spare, but when that is fitted on the car, a message tells me that the entire system is not working. I don't think it's possible to turn off the system other than by Lexia. Quote
seefive Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 When you press the check button, you should see in your driver interface screen (middle of the speedo) the car graphic with tyres dispayed with "OK" messages (or possibly low pressure, but this would have been preceded by an unsolicited warning) then miles left to service then "no faults" ( or a fault log, presumably) (this is based on my 2013 exclusive technopack with colour screen) Do you get any of these displays? If not, it would indicate some kind of self-diagnostic problem, rather than a Tyre monitor problem Quote
qman3428 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 (edited) John is correct, they can be turned on and off by a lexia plugged in to the diagnostic socket. The sensors are £80 each so if one has been giving problems the previous owner probably just got them turned off as it is cheaper than replacing them Edited August 21, 2013 by qman3428 Quote
qman3428 Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 The official line is :- "The latest commission directive, 2010/48/EU, states that from January 2012, any vehicle originally fitted with TPMS will have to have it fully operable in order to pass the annual MOThttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png test. This will then mean that even one faulty sensor will be enough to score a 'fail'." However if it is turned off and all the valves are the normal type it would be difficult for a garage to determine if it was originally fitted with TPMS or not Quote
RichL72 Posted August 21, 2013 Author Posted August 21, 2013 I get all the screens in the centre display except the tyre pressure one. I'm guessing its a system check problem then as I get no errors being reported. Might have to take it in to Citroen for them to have a look. I was hoping it may have been something simple :) Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 It might be as qman said - previously one of the valve sensors has gone down and rather than replacing it, the system has been turned off. To find out, the car would need to be connected to a Lexia. Quote

From November 12, all new cars were supposed to have TPMS, but there was no obligation on the manufacturers to fit them. What this means I have no idea.- compulsory aftermarket item? The MOT rules seem to be that TPMS is only a fail point on cars that were obliged to have them - so, from November 2015 Who knows?? RichL72 Posted August 29, 2013 Author Posted August 29, 2013 I've been to a local garage and they told me the sensors were turned off. They have turned them all back on and set them to 2.4 bar. Still no screen on the Dash though?????? Any ideas? Quote
paul.h Posted August 29, 2013 Posted August 29, 2013 2.4 bar is 35 psi, I do not know if this is a bit high, but you could let a tyre down a bit and see if you get a warning. Quote
seefive Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Hi PaulThis is a Mk3, and pressure information is available on demand via the "check " button. If nothing's coming up on the interface screen, there's something else wrong/disabled.Citroen dealer should be able to sort this, probably not a job for a non-franchised garage Quote
