voguev8 Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 HiWas going to give my 87k miles C5 diesel a good service. (Recently had cam belt changed) I will do the oil/filters etc (Dont have a FAP as a 2.0 HDI). But was wondering what else worth doing to prolong the life of my car, ie does the suspension fluid need changing etcThanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted October 24, 2013 Posted October 24, 2013 But was wondering what else worth doing to prolong the life of my car,I would suggest the fuel filter; the air filter: the pollen filter: a change of coolant and a change of brake fluid. Quote
voguev8 Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 HiDoes anyone know how to get the pipes off the fuel filter housing.I assume the ring just unscrews but cannot see how the pipes come offThanks Quote
Johndouglas Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 There are different types of fuel filter fitted to the C5s. To open the lid in the second picture, the ring screws off and the top cover lifts out. Before turning the ring remove the two fuel lines by pressing down on the white insert and pulling the fitment off the stub. The electrical connector also needs to be removed. The forked clip needs to be lifted. On the later type the fuel lines are removed, also the electrical connector. A close fitting socket is used to unscrew the lid. In both types use a new rubber gasket. I find it useful to spread old rags under the filter bowl to catch any spilt fuel. Also an old ice cream container is useful to have at the ready to receive the old filter. Quote
voguev8 Posted January 23, 2014 Author Posted January 23, 2014 HiThanks, this is great info.... I did a full service before Christmas but could not see how to get the pipes off.Next dry day I will give it a go.regards Quote
paul.h Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Changing the suspension fluid is not a normal service item but I have read that coastline taxis do change theirs since it improves the ride if the fluid is old/high miles. Haynes gives the amount as about 5 litres so could cost about £50 depending on the source. GSF is advertising at £9.90 a litre http://www.gsfcarparts.com/980aa0720 Quote
