Hello people i have recenty fitted a new alternator belt to my 2.0L hdi citroen relay van all routed correctly but since doing this i have started getting a rattling noise and on looking at the crankshaft pulley found there to be fresh wear maks like the pulley is on the piss. On reading further ive heard about a eccentric tensioner now im worried i have damaged something please can someone tell me if its just a case of release normal tensioner and fit new belt and release tensioner or are you meant to do something with this eccentric tensioner if it has one any help would make me very happy.

For the 2.0 hdi 90 hp engine, it looks as if all you do is turn the tensioner anti clockwise with a spanner/socket on the tensioner pulley bolt to release the belt tension, peg the tensioner, remove/refit the belt, again do the tensioner anti clockwise and remove the peg. With the old belt off did you check if all the pulleys spun quietly and had no signs of wear - sometimes they need replacing at the same time as the belt.

theres 2 belts for the relay and both will fit. One is a bit bigger (about 20mm)  and as such will have less tension on it so you can either get the right belt or just use the eccentric pully to take the slack up. i think the diference is aircon and none aircon

The Citroen 2.0 hdi engines are very common for the rubber in the bottom pulley being worn. If the belt had come off whilst driving this can cause the bottom pulley to fail. I am not sure as to why this is, Citroen sent out a memo about not to run them without the belts on. To change the bottom pulley you are meant to pin the flywheel before removing the pulley bolt.

Hope this helps.
