If your Eolys reservoir needs refilling you can DIY.   You'll need to remove the n/s rear wheel and maybe the wheel arch liner.   You'll find the reservoir alongside the end of the fuel tank.   GSF, dealers and ebay sell refill kits, but note there are two types of fluid - one for early engines and another for later ones.   Your RP number will indicate which one.   Having refilled the tank the car's computer needs to be told and you'll need to find someone with a Lexia to do that.

Eventually, because there is no Eolys in the diesel fuel, the FAP filter won't regenerate and it will become totally blocked.   At which point the engine won't run correctly.

There is an alternative to refilling the Eolys tank.   That is to have the FAP filter removed altogether.   Briefly what happens is the exhaust system is dropped.   The cat box is unbolted from the FAP filter, the innards is knocked out of the filter and the two boxes rejoined.   Then the exhaust is replaced.   Afterwards the car's ECU needs to be rewritten with the regeneration programme removed.   It's a tried and tested method.   My own C5 was done two years ago and it's done 1000's of miles since without problems.   The cost is no more than that of an Eoylis refill.   To find details for your own area Google "DPF removal in where you live".

I should have said, my DPF has been removed and the ECU flashed to reflect.

Now you tell me  :D    You have the same trouble a me.   Every time I start the engine and drive away I get the message "Additive level low".   During the summer I had to have my fuel tank drained.   The garage that did it knew I'd had the DPF removed and I think they helped themselves to the Eolys still left in the tank.   The message didn't appear before the tank removal - only afterwards.   I just ignore the message but one of these days I'll get around to putting a pint or so of diesel in there.   It won't go anywhere.

Adding the diesel may not get rid of the message, we have a member with a C5 with the message, tried to top up, it was already full care of the previous owner. To remove the message would require expense, possibly the additive ecu replaced since trying with a diagnostic tool had not worked. I think the level may be determined by calculation of something like fuel tank fills rather than an actual level measurement and the no. of fills needs to be reset. You would think the software mods when removing the dpf would take care of this.

Took the rear n/s wheel off for a quick look earlier, couldn't see the Eolys reservoir. Truth be told, I'm not really blessed with any mechanical skill.

Is there a procedure or guide written up anywhere that could help me out.

Also, to coincide with the error message, the car is intermittently losing power and jerking.

Do you think the two could be related?

Cheers

Hi,

I'm not sure if I should open a  new thread or just tag on to this one as I am experiencing a similar issue.

My C8 has had the engine management light going on and off for some months now. When its on I get a sluggish performance. My local mechanic finally got his diagnostics equipment in a few days ago. It told him "THE CAR HAS A FAULT" but NOT where the fault may lie. Anyway he noticed that the additive tank is empty (I've not had any low additive warning). I've not had the car (2005 2.2 HDi exclusive) very long so it has been a steep learning curve.

The EM light has now been on for a couple of weeks. The question I have is:- Is it likely that after refilling the additive tank that the FAP will clear after a while or is there away of cleaning it out OR should I just go for the removal of it as suggested earlier in the discussion? (will this affect emissions  when it comes to MOT test?)

Regards,

Dave

Due to future MOT changes it can not be recommended to remove the dpf any more since if it has been removed then the car would fail. The details of the MOT checks are not yet known though. There is a pinned post on this on the C5 subforum.

Others seem to have cleaned the dpf by using a jet washer to flush out the ash.

I've just re-read this thread to refresh my memory.

Some weeks ago I added 3 litres of Eolys fluid to my 2003 2.2HDi as I had got the "Diesel additive minimum level" warning. As was said above, the refilling of the additive tank is quite straightforward.

However, I am struggling to tell the ECUs via Lexia that there is now 3 litres of fluid in the tank.

At present I am getting the message "Diesel additive minimum level" warning accompanied by the service light flashing a few miles after setting off. After several seconds these messages diappear. However, this scenario repeats itself everytime I drive off. The engine management light has not come on (thankfully).

I have gone throught the Lexia routine for resetting the counters several times but this does not solve the problem. When the DPF was replaced and the Eolys fluid was replenished on my 2001 2.2HDi the Citroen dealer had to replace the additive ECU because the original one would not reset (apparently this was quite common on early models).

Please, does anyone have any ideas before I change the ECU?

On a positive note, from the Lexia diagnostics, I can hear the additive pump running and the injector ticking so they appear to be working.

Also I can see the following data about the DPF and I assume it is in good health, but if anyone can review the following data and comment that would be helpful. I went through the DPF manual regeneration routine just out of curiosity and the data for that is in the right-hand column. The average distance for the last 5 regenerations seems to have gone adrift though (at 24km) after the manual regeneration.

There is a person on ebay (item number 231350343342) in the midlands (Redditch) offering to reset this dam light for £20. Main dealers want a lot of £££ for this if you can persuade them to do it at all. This might be useful...

Unless you use a lexia to tell the ECU that the eolys tank has been refilled the warning message will still keep coming back. IMHO it'll be 20 quid wasted.
