DANT-66 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 HiI have a 2.2HDI mwb on an 05 plate and when starting from hot or cold the auxillary fan cuts in and runs for 5 mins or more which is very annoying as it puts van in a sort of limp home mode and also flicks on the engine warning light. Turning van off doesn't cut the fan out and only serves to run the battery down!Think its a faulty engine temp sensor but can anyone point me in the right direction to find the sensor. Have bought a replacement sensor but can't find the faulty sensor on the block!Any help much appreciated CheersDan Quote
paul.h Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Welcome to the forum. If I have got this right, at the end of the cylinder head is what Citroen call the outlet tank which includes the thermostat and hoses. The coolant temp sensor should be in the side of this tank. From the parts diagram it looks as if it is held in place by a clip. As a test, you could connect up the new sensor to the wiring connector without removing the old one and see if the fan now works correctly on starting the engine - if so you know this is the faulty part. The fans also have their own thermal switch and relays so it could be these that are at fault. They are part of the fan wiring harness so they should be easy to find near the fans but you may have to remove an engine undershield to replace the parts and possibly disconnect/connect the abs valve block. (Later I will move this post in to a subforum since ones outside do not show after a few days and are difficult to find) Quote
Johndouglas Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 can anyone point me in the right direction to find the sensor. This may or may not help. I replaced the temperature sensor on 2ltr 8valve engine and found the sensor in the end of the block. As Paul said, the sensor was held in place by an inverted U-shaped clip which enters from the top and slots into a grove on the sensor. I recall it was necessary to remove some trunking to gain access. Quote
Charlie_Relay Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 (edited) Quite happily!!The tempurateure sensor is located on the side of the head, on the right hand side above the gearbox, the easy way to find it, as it is not directly visible without doing the steps below, and even then it's hard to see, is to follow a group of wires in a protective sleeve thet runs along the right hand side of the engine bay, it will follow the wall then you will feel it fork into a "Y" shape, follow the cable that goes towards the engine and that's your sensor!! it actually feels like it is part of the gearbox it's that badly allocated!!1 - Take of the breather pipe (the big fat one on top of everything) that goes to the air filter box, it is not secured, you can just pull it off!2 - Remove the turbo intake pipe (the next big pipe you come accross) by means of loosening the jubilee clip (standard citroen ones are prised ones with no screw, the preasure ones, I replaced mine with a screwable one for future ease) and then pulling on the pipe and bending it to one side, this will not damage it as it is quite flexible3 - You will see the fuel lines (3 in all) clipped to a bracket in a downward fashion4 - Unclip these, then remove the 3 bolts that are holding this bracket to the engine (attatched to the top of the gearbox)5 - You will see a blue clip coming from a "Y"-shaped batch of cables, quite thin with cable protective sleeve around it6 - Get a large flat-headed screwdriver and put it in the joint of the cable and the sensor and turn clockwiseto "open" the connector, I did this with the ignition on and the fan kicked in so make sure you have all clothing and/or tools well away from the fan, I mean, don't wear a tie to do this! ;-)7 - Remove the sensor with strength but carefully8 - Replace the sensor, connect the cable, replace the bracket, clip the fuel lines back in, put the turbo breather pipe back on with a new screwable jubilee clip (for future ease), push the air filter pipe back on and JOB DONE! Hope this helped, if you need photos, I'd quite happily send you some so you can orientate yourself better! Edited February 6, 2014 by Charlie_Relay Quote
