Vin1100 Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 If anyone can shead some light i would be very greatful.. I have recently changed the EGR valve on the c5 vtx as it had signs of wear and was sticking closed in first gear at low rpm and gave high readings on last MOT ...Anyhoo i have had car running for a split second before system error said depollution system faulty.. I have cleared this with a diagnostic reader.. Car will not start... The battery has been disconnected so therefore cleard system.. Is it worth doing the reboot as mentioned on here sometime ago.. Many thanks v :) Quote
paul.h Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Welcome to the forum. What engine is it and do you have the fault code that you cleared ? Did the engine run after changing the egr valve and was the valve new and were all the connections and pipes to it in good condition - presumably it ran ok before you changed it. Quote
Vin1100 Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 Its a 1.6 hdi 2006 i didnt record the fault code unfortunately and yes it did run fine before changing.. All pipes and loom connecting are good.. The only thing that happened is that 1 of the bleed over nipples on top of the injectors had broke so i have now renewed all four as they come complete.. I also had to manually prime diesel as i disconnected filter when fitting EGR Quote
paul.h Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 This is only a guess and maybe the replacement egr valve has a problem such as it is not closed. You could try the old one again or disconnect the pipe to it and plug the end of the pipe which should stop the valve opening. The fuel filter may need priming again. Quote
paul.h Posted November 19, 2013 Posted November 19, 2013 Ignore disconnecting the pipe, I thought it may have had a vacuum pipe but one is not mentioned in the Haynes manual on the 1.6 hdi. Quote
Vin1100 Posted November 19, 2013 Author Posted November 19, 2013 Thanks paul for your research, the egr operates via solenoid and yes it could be faulty.. Do you think its worth doing the so called reset for computer?? Will it work on this model?.. I will try fitting old egr to see if it starts.. Not nice to do on cold nights after work... Will update on progress. Thank you :) Quote
paul.h Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 An extra thought, try plugging in the connector to the old one before swapping them back and see if that works. Many people blank off egr valves, so as long as the replacement one is not leaking, then it would probably have the same effect. I would save a bsi reset until later but there is a procedure for disconnecting/reconnecting the battery on the C5 Technical subforum Common Problems post that has not given me any odd electrical problems. coastline taxis Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Hi what readings was the egr valve giving of. also if you crank the engine over 3 x 5 seconds youl get the fault codes back. but for non starters you have to go into live data. cant help thinking that its fuel related br=ecause youve had the fuel filter of and a problem with the spill return pipes so check your fuel rail pressure in live data you want at least 250 bar when cranking engine over. Vin1100 Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 Thanks for post coastline.. Car is running now after retracing steps of egr fitment.. New glow plugs are next on the list... Quote
Vin1100 Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 The culprit was x2 slightly dislodged glow plug loom connectors.. All good now after a full charged battery and rock hard primed fuel filter... Thanks for all feedback people... :) Quote
coastline taxis Posted November 21, 2013 Posted November 21, 2013 thanks for comming back with a answer to the problem Quote
